chinense Tired of....of.............C Chinense!!!!!AAHHHH!!!

Refering to my question about the "bhuts": Having so many "expert's" opinions in a short time was fine, if there wasn't what we call subjectivity (of taste) and impression.

Because as expected the opinons differ somewhat and there is little contradiction (no offense to anyone) about wether the Bhut Jolokias have (some or more) of the typical chinese taste or not (which I unfortually can't stand). I guess I have to try without hurting myself :)

Ehmmm, just a little reminder on the TWANG: well actually it's part (a component) of the natural repellent that goes with the capsaicin. As the later hasn't any taste or smell by itself, there are other essential oils needed for the sent to be more effective. As we know, capsaicin is supposed to prevent mammals and other species with a "long" digestive tube to eat the pods together with the seeds and digest the seeds to the point they are not viable anymore. Hence, finding it repulsive is actually a very normal reaction. It is actually supposed to be mammal repellent

I am repelled by peppers.....;)

Nah!, I love them in dried form. They still have the smell, but less taste.

Other C Chinense don't bother me, just the strongest twangers.

I am not saying anything about you. I just remind about nature's intentions and what twags are intended for. Some western people just hate the taste of fresh coriander, when they taste it the first time. Even worse for Culantro and some others. While most asians can't stand the taste and smell of ordinary parsley or oregano.

Nature can't do anything about the fact that some mammals get used to all those terrible twags, though... ;)

Interesting though. Where did you learn that?

Well it's part of allelopathic vs. symbiotic chemistry warfare, if you like. It's complex and mysterious, still logic. The worst weapons get used within the same specie. So the nightshade family is fighting for space and nutrients and hence having strong allelopathy against varieties from it's own family.

We can learn a lot from it about our own "human" behavior. For example: the worst arguments, rhetorics and even logical falacies, are used among individuals with the same intellectual level. They are used to fight for space and attention.

9 posts in, and I , for 1, am glad you are here.;)

Just don't rip off your disguise to reveal that you are really PMD..........(;))

Wow. That is seriously thought provoking.

Dammit Cheezy that was meant for Luca. I too, am impressed.

Nahhh, I am not from the Pakistan Meteorological Department, but thanks anyway.
Btw: the other common and important "natural" weapon (not in plant-, but rather animal kingdom) is deception. Very, very true...

Sorry for getting OT!

PS: if there is any confusion about my identity (and not just some insider kidding that I can't get), my IP should reveal that I am truly calling in from Thailand.

My father was stationed in Thailand in the air force.

There is a Tobago seasoning pepper that has all the c chinense flavor and aroma you could want, with little heat.

Could be that it thinks it is warding off pepper fiends who will think it is a 7 pot!;)
