Tornado forming near my house!

Yup! I was weed whacking the back yard and noticed a funnel cloud forming in the distance so I ran inside and grabbed my camera. It only touched down briefly, appeared very weak and was over open territory. That sure made my day!

Sorry for the rain spot on the lens. I didn't even realize it was there at the time.

TNRedit: You can see the funnel right in the center of the picture. It was just a little guy.

Glad it stayed away! You got a hell of a view, nice pic!

Thanks! I took this pic while standing right in front of my greenhouse. I'd be devastated if it took that out. Everything looks like it is a lot farther away and smaller than it really is in this pic.

Textbook collar, wall and funnel. Nice catch!

edit: Were you looking West or Northwest?

Northwest. Good call! We got hammered with hail a few minutes after I took this picture.

Glad it never took hold. I lived in Seymour, Texas where 80% of the homes have storm cellars ( Tornado Alley next to the Brazos River). I have often reserved my comments on here in regards to these twisters because I have been so close to having my own Wizard of Oz experiences. I have a great respect for these weather phenomenons. I live in Cali now where everyone spokes at a little ground shake. I will take all the ground shaking every day, compared to watching a big twister closing in.

SUPERB!!!  :)  It's nice when the weather comes to you.  :)

Good thing you had a camera at hand!  Many chasers experience 'The Camera Dream' on a semi-regular basis, where they unexpectedly encounter a tornado or other killer scene, but can't find, or realize they have forgotten, their camera.   ARGH!!

I've dreamed several variations, featuring volcanoes, lightning outbreaks, etc.  The most WTF? flavor was a surreal tsunami barreling down the local wash... complete with dozens of sharks!  Sharknami!   (Hey, at least they weren't flying!)

Got any more pics?
Did you jump in the car and give chase?

I'm running your license plate and boat registration right now

Go ahead, those are our neighbors. I don't even know their names. ;)

We have a deep, full basement. Tornadoes are usually very rare here, especially significant tornadoes, but I have seen two in the past couple weeks. I know the area you are talking about. I lived in Texas for a while.

My camera was inside, but it lasted long enough to get a few pics. This was the best one I could get (my camera's auto focus is balls). I know the "Camera Dream" that you speak of. I witnessed the tornado that touched down a couple weeks ago west of Burlington, but due to all the hail on the road, I had to focus on driving.

I did not chase since it dissipated rather quickly and my truck is currently overflowing with stuff to take to the dump tomorrow that I really don't want to be picking up out of the road if I can avoid it.

LOL, you should have 'borrowed' the red car, it looks plenty fast!  :)

My truck would stomp that little car! ;)

That's too bad I was planning to take your identity so I could steal your house and get that view!

Honestly, for Wyoming, that isn't exactly a million dollar view. More like low average at best.

You live in Texas, though. Texas has some absolutely amazing scenery as well.

This pic was taken from our old driveway in Shell, Wyoming. We were about a mile and half from the entrance to Shell Canyon in the Bighorn Mountains.

Here is some land that is for sale right now that I looked at (I am going to be buying some land and building a house on it). Neener, neener! :P
