With the indoor plants more or less on cruise control for now, I’m taking a look at space and materials needs for spring.
I’ll be moving these to the south side of and east-west 6’ privacy fence, which should give the most sun possible in the back yard, with a good bit of wind protection and something I can use to build a shade-cloth pergola for the peak heat months.
The wife is ok with me taking up whatever space is needed as long at it looks decent.
-7 Gal fabric pots
-Tomato cages
-An alarming amount of bagged soil (8 bags-ish)
-Mulch bed edging
-River rock for ground cover
-40-50% shade cloth
-8’ pressure treated 4x4’s & 3/4” PVC/fittings for shade cloth frame
Still need to figure out plant spacing and a layout to see how much area I’ll want to occupy. All of these will be first year plants so I’m trying not to be too enthusiastic/optimistic with spacing, but they will all need to fit under shade cloth.
Also considering the viability of moving most of these back into 1 gal bags after cutting them back and being able to fit them back in my tent.
Initial overhead view layout with 14” bags and a 2’ wide plant. 2’ - 3’ spacing. Still needing a little more room or cramming them tighter together, which I want to avoid.

Edit to add some pictures post topping. Some of these have turned into very dense little shrubs, but continue to put on size.
PPFD is getting slowly turned up as the younger ones put on a few more leaves.
Growth is very dense for everything & node spacing is almost nonexistent it seems like.
I’m not sure if they would LOOK a lot bigger at this point if they were under fluorescent bulbs.
Currently at 325.
DLI is at 21, with recommended range being 10-20…. so Im gonna leave it at 325 PPFD.
The last two pictures are of the ONLY White Ghost I ever was able to germinate, which looked pathetic at the time… Has started to normalize and looking reasonably happy.
The Hallows Eve continues to look quite strange, in color and how it’s growing. I don’t know if that’s just a Pimenta De Neyde thing but we shall see how it looks in a few weeks.
