Ah, being my first one, and really, my first ever running engagement, I was happy finishing. I learned some things for the next time, though. I enjoyed it, and am planning on making it a regular thing.
It was the half, 4:03.
1. Next time, I don't want to start so far back. I started in the 39th out of 40 corrals. There were two water stations that had run out of cups.
2. Wear a hat. And sunscreen. Ouch.
3. Wear band aids or electric tape on your nipples. I had bloody spots on my shirt. Ouch.
we just got back from honolulu where my wife ran in the hapalua marathon....i don't run, we were just there to support her and take pictures as she crossed the finish line. i believe it is a yearly run.
she has another local event in june.
she does the little water bottle thing that goes around her waist, think it has 3-4 place holders and fills them with some brand of electrolyte replacement juice and besides good shoes, also has good sunglasses to block any glaring and there is some type of bodysuit that she claims make her run easier.
i don't know if this is standard but the runners pickup kit was RFID enabled and as she crossed certain milestones time was instantly recorded and results could be tracked online with an app. as she and others crossed the finish line their names were called out over loud speakers. the announcer was absolutely fabulous and made the finish results extremely interesting and exciting. the people that lined the streets were no longer cheering for loved ones and friends but for all the runners as it became more personable.
