U)<now's 2016/2017 Indoor/Outdoor Glog

Hey guys,

I figured I'd start a late season Glog for my indoor (possibly outdoor for a couple months) grow since I didn't start anything this past spring. I posted some stuff in the Growing sub a couple weeks ago when I ordered all my seeds for my 2017 grow, but I wanted to start a few now to overwinter for a winter project as well as a head start for 2017. Currently I have a setup for 5 4ft T8 twin tube fixtures (10 bulbs) with 6500K bulbs right now as I don't normally overwinter plants so I haven't needed anything stronger yet... I only keep 4 fixtures on it for seedlings. I may upgrade to a Quantum Badboy 8 bulb T5HO, or a DIY COB LED setup, not decided yet, I need to do more research on the LED. I have followed a few DIY builds on here and people here seem to have good luck with their DIY COB LED setups and I have seen people growing to pods with both indoors. I don't want to deal with the cost or heat of MH or HPS. I guess the good thing about LED is they don't normally degrade or have to be replaced seasonally like T8 or T5 bulbs.

I only have room to start about 300 plants in the spring, The most I have started in years past was 288, so my list wont get much bigger for 2017, but here is my 2017 grow list so far. I normally start about 10 or so of each plant and give some away to my family members with gardens, Keeping only 2 or 3 of each variety for myself. I have all these seeds in hand right now, with the exception of a couple.

Nice setup, plants look fine.
Some minor glitches are normal... Sometimes you can shock/stunt them during transplant despite the attentions.
Also in the same conditions some plants get just healthier and stronger by genetics, that's why i usually plant a few for each variety and then keep only the best looking / fastest growing.

Good luck

Thanks Datil. I have a few I marked already that looked really good and had a good root system going already. I'll probably keep about 90 during first pick, then 60 or so for the final pick.

I did break up the root ball on most that were a little bigger. Hopefully it doesn't stunt them.

I have my keepers from this batch picked. I kept 6 of everything (69 total) except only one 7 Pod Barrackpore and two T.S. Moruga as that's all that germ'd for those.

I'll be thinning this back again to 2 to 4 of each once my other batch of seeds germs and are potted up.

Looking good Troy. What a sense of accomplishment it is to get all them potted up. If I still drank, this would be a time to toast.

CHEERS!

You ain't kiddin! Took me about 8 straight hours! I actually timed myself per cup to see how long it was going to take me... was about 1 min 35 secs average per cup... x 162 cups, plus setup time and mixing soil with water and all that jazz. I split it up over 2 nights.

Oh, and drilling holes in the cups also took a bit of time, drilled 9 holes through 10 cups at a time for 250 cups, lol. Which reminds me I forgot to upload pics of that part.

But anyways, I'll cheers to that!

I don't see a thing wrong going on with any of your babies. Just keep doing what you're doing ;)
Thanks Scott! Hopefully I get good germ rates from this second batch. I'm also waiting for the batch of replacement seeds from THSC which should be here this week. It's getting a bit late for me to be germing Chinense since I have a short season, but I figure better late than never! Next year (as I always say, lol) I will germ the Chinense on or before January 1st.

Updated Grow list with germination rates. The overall germination rate on that first batch of 288 seeds was about 57%   My sheet now shows lower, but that's because I just sowed that second batch of seeds on March 3rd.  Other than my batch of replacement seeds, I am not planning for any additional varieties this season.  Hopefully I get good seeds from this years harvest of my super hots so I can focus on getting seeds from some of the rarer/other varieties of peppers, not necessarily super hots, for next season.

Update:

Lots of pics. Plants are coming along nicely, I think they are a bit stunted from transplanting, but some are showing new growth again, so should be good to go.

That's all for now, thanks for stopping by! :fire: :fire:

Congrats on the tomato sprouts. Nice pics of the plants. Mutant Orange, looks to be mutant for sure. Time will tell. I'm growing the mutant candlelight. I can see it's trying to show its leaves. Definitely different. The little sprouts are doing good. Looks like leaves are starting to swell.

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you sir! I think I'll wait about 3 more weeks til around 1st week of April and then start feeding them really lightly if it looks like they need it.

Since I bottom water now, I might try some of those hydro nutes that Khang Starr uses. His experiment videos show insane growth when using them. Plants basically tripple in size over a 3 week period vs the control plants with just water.

Check out this video if you haven't seen it already. 6 minutes is where the 21 day results are shown.

Seeds are popping from the new batch already. Only 6 days since hitting the dirt for these ones and they're some of the ones I worried would be harder to germ. I did increase my heat mat to 85F this round though. First batch was at 83F.

Blue Christmas, Aji Pineapple, Bubblegum 7 and Orange Fatali all started popping.  Also got a few from the Sweet banana's, Bell's and Pepperoncini's

I watched the video the other day. It's a good comparison. Just be careful with some of those nutes. Some of those numbers are high in the npk. I learned that the hard way. More is not better.

You've got quite a few sprouts. Do you pre soak?

Everything looking good.

Ok, I'll do a bit more homework before I decide what to go with for nutes.

No pre-soak, I figure what's the difference if they sit in water for a day, or sit in dirt that's pretty wet for that same first 24 hours. (Unless you're adding something to your water like some do) This gets them in the dirt a day sooner, and one less time handling the seeds, which saves time for me.

My process is this, I fill a 5 gal bucket about 2/3 full of seed starter mix, ( gets me about 3 trays full) then pour in 1 quart of 90F water and mix it all up by hand. This warms the soil a bit and gives me a moisture content where if you squeeze the dirt, it'll hold its shape, but no water runs out. I then fill my cells, poke a 1/4" deep hole in each, put 1 seed per cell and cover them up. Then I spray a full 1 quart (32oz) bottle of 90F water onto each tray. My fingers are pretty sore after dirt day, lol. From there, I put the domes on each tray and put them on the heat mat at 85F. I typically see sprouts by day 5 or 6 and end up with about 80% of what's going to germ by day 14 or so. My tomatoes germ'd in 3 days. Overall germ rates per variety varies of course. So far this year, I've landed around 60% to 100% germ rates per variety.

It's also worth noting that seeds from Comercial companies (ie: Burpee) always seem to have a 99% to 100% germ rate. I wonder if they treat their seeds with something or have a method of only selecting the best seeds?

Thank you good sir!   They are not as dark green as I'd like to see, but they are growing. Bottom leaves on some of them are a bit yellow for some reason. I cut back my watering amount since this pro-mix ultimate organic mix holds water pretty long. I was giving each tray of 15 solo cups 2 quarts of water when it was time for watering, but I cut that in half to one quart of water now since this soil holds water for days.  I thought about adding perlite to it once I opened the bags and saw the mix, I probably should have. Oh well, my cut back on watering should help. Since the surface is almost always dry, I usually go by feel/weight of the cups.

Quick Sunday germ list update -  Organized my list alphabetically by variety for each type and added hyperlinks for each also.

Bunch more popped. Still big fat zeros on the Chocolate Habs, Bhuts and Chocolate Bhuts. from this batch. Its barely been 9 days, but my experience so far this season tells me if I don't see at least one sprout in the first 14 days, chances are I wont get anything. Hopefully I get at least one of each of those.

I agree . i use pro - mix equivalent , it has perlite in it , but i always do a 1/3 perlite to 2/3 of the soil regardless that it has perlite already , O'l friend taught me that , better root  aeration and better to be on the dry side water a little often than for them to stay wet long , and grow soil bacteria . But as for the green on some I have a few that do that every yr. this yr. no different . I believe its more genetics .

I'll definitely add perlite when I pot them up again.
