Uknow 2018 - The Heat is On!

Hey all!

Just a quick sneak peak. I planned on dirt day being January 1st this year, but it ended up being today (yesterday), January 18th. Still about 2 weeks earlier than my first set last year. As long as I don't have any major setbacks like last season, I should crush it this year! *Knock on wood*

So I finally got the grow box/tent, lights and heat mat set up in my unfinished rec room downstairs of the new house. The room is about 6' x 9'. Had to cut about 4 inches off one side of my table, it's a tight fit, but I didn't want to go lengthwise, lol.

I planted 4 trays of Chinense only so far. Heat mat is set to 83f. I learned my lesson last year with planting Annuum's and baccatum's too early. Not doing that again! I'll wait at least another month before I start them.

I didn't put together my official grow list yet, but you can see most of the varieties in the pics. Mostly the same as last year, I didn't order any new seeds. I'm missing a few varieties though due to not getting any pods from a few that the deer mowed down last season. (I'm looking for Chocolate Bhut, JPGS and a couple others if anyone wants to trade some seeds)

Also, of the 22 plants I tried to overwinter, 10 survived the aphids and neglect from me. Only watered twice since October, oops, haha. 5 I think have some life left in them, and 7 were completely toast. I'll get a list of the survivors tomorrow when I do my grow list.

How many seeds do you plant in each cell?
Normally I do one per cell. This time with yours I did two per cell, 3 cells per variety, so 6 seeds per variety, just hoping for 2 or 3 of each, if two sprout in a cell, I'll probably separate them and give some of my others away to make room.

Edit: So some of these I only had 6 or 7 seeds so I am all in with a few of the varieties you sent.

Well, after the whole heat mat/temp debacIe today, I decided to feed them for the first time tonight. Used roughly 50% strength (7.5ml/gal)of CNS17 Grow. Normal strength is 15ml to 18ml per gallon.

Wish me luck!

Pics update:

Plants are growing well this year, time to start picking keepers and potting up tonight!

Second pic is some Borg 9's.

Third pic is some of my BTR's, of which, a couple are purple.

Fourth pic is some of my Reaper's, one is purple. (I think this and my purple BTR'S maybe crossed with my Purple Naga Viper, or my Fildaga Preto, as they were both very close to the BTR and Reaper plants last season, we'll see as time goes on.)

Next is some CP115's

Then the CPR "Red Grenade" long red pheno or cross I got from Butch T as CPR seeds. We'll see what they put out this season.

Then my YBS for the Growdown

And finally, some Purple Naga Viper (Chocolate pheno that popped up last year)

Yeah i think those purple ones are crossed.  Doesn't look like the purple suntan plants get under those kind of lights.
That was my thoughts as well, especially since none of the others of the same variety are purple. I've had some get purple from the lights being too close in the past, but it's never as dark as that. Those 3 plants are just as dark as my Purple Naga Viper's.

Plants are looking great!

Isn't this a fun time of the year?

Edit: You may want to lose that bad heat mat. What if it's a fire issue?

Every time I see smoke out my way I'm thinking please don't burn the cat!
Thanks Devv!

Yeah I unplugged that heat mat this morning and went to a single 10x20 mat for now. That large one is under a year old, so I'm going to call about getting it warrantied. It was $50.

Awesome looking grow...Very healthy looking.

Very clean and meticulous set up.

Well, I contacted HydroFarm for a warranty claim on my heat mat, and of course I'm just a couple days past the 1 year warranty, so they're not sure if they can go good for it. I sent them proof of purchase so they can review it. If they don't replace it, I'll never buy another HydroFarm product again. It was only used for a few weeks last season and two weeks this season.

Aside from that, I haven't potted up yet, and I'll be gone for the kids travel basketball all weekend and won't have time, so I took the day off work tomorrow to pot up all my keepers, lol. Need to do a few other projects around the house anyways, replacing bathroom faucets being one of them.

They are starting to get a darker green color to them since I started feeding them, so that's a good sign.

HydroFarm got back to me today, they are replacing the mat as a one time courtesy as well as sending me some sample products! I think the 48" mat is discontinued now, so they had to find one. They found one and said they will be shipping it out today.

I was surprised by how fast their replies have been. Pretty darn good customer service!

Although I was extremely nice and professional in my request, so that probably helped as well. Grandma always says you catch more fly's with honey than vinegar, haha.

Potting up complete, for now. I potted up at least two of each variety.

I kept a third Reaper (the purple one), 3 BTR's(2 purple, which were tri-coty ones) and one extra Red BrainStrain that is a tri-coty, but also seems to be putting out true leaves 3 at a time, so we'll see.

Also... We have life in the tray with the seeds from Jedi and Genetikx!! Maybe they didn't get cooked after all. 3 Chocolate Ebony Habanero's and 2 Yellow Scotch Bonnet MOA's.

I also have a screen shot of my updated spreadsheet, I don't think it'll format right for viewing on PC (I'm on mobile right now), so I'll jump on my PC later and reformat if needed.

That's all for now, thanks for stopping by!

Keep it :FIRE:

Yeah keep that purple reaper plant i want to see the pods.  I had a reaper plant from seed stock grow long pods last year with purple shading.  One suspect was it crossed into the aji puerto rican habanero.
