Uknow's 2019 - Less is More!

Hey all!

I'm back for another season! I'm about a month behind last year's schedule, but still plenty of time since I don't plant out til the first week of June. I think last year I started almost 500 or 600 seeds of around 50 varieties??? This year, I finally cut back, lol. Only did two trays, 144 cells total of 14 different varieties. I'm only planning on keeping 56 plants max, that's what my tent fits in 1 gal (6") nursery pots. However, I'll be keeping 4 to 6 of each variety, instead of only 2of each like last year, so that's where the less is more part comes in! The rest will be given away to friends and family.

Here's the pics...

For anyone new wondering about my setup, here are the details:

Homemade grow tent - 50" wide x 38" deep x 48" tall.

Lighting - 6 twin tube T8 shop lights (12 bulbs total) mounted together as one unit. with Sylvania Octron FO32/865/XP bulbs. 384 watts total with 34,200 Lumens. I'd like to upgrade this to a COB LED setup soon, probably the Optic 4 XL.

Heat mat - 48"x24". I use this one even when not starting 4 trays, because it's a more consistent temperature throughout the mat, vs smaller single tray mats (which I have a few) that get hot in the middle but the outside edges are still cool.

Here's a pic of the timers and stuff on the side of the tent:

Hopefully it's a great season this year!

Best of luck to everyone!

Wow, nice! Some serious quantity going on there, and your setup looks really slick.

Your username, though, makes the thread update listing look like it's broken.

Yeah, sometimes it just shows the U) and nothing after that. Not sure if I can change it or not.

Thanks, eh! No, those are not the final pots. The ones I really want to get a lot out of will go into 15 gallon pots (4 of them). Then most (around 20) into 10 gallon pots and the rest into 5 gallon buckets. I also have a bunch of 3 gallon pots if needed.

These 4 plants below from last year were in the 15 gallon pots. However, they were 2nd year plants overwintered from the 2017 season. They didn't produce pods as early as the 1st season plants though, they spent more time vegging out first and got absolutely huge and then produced a couple hundred pods each towards the end of the season. There was easily a couple hundred more on each plant that just didn't have time to finish up before the frost came. That fence is 4ft tall. So this year, I'll get to see what 1st year plants can do in the 15 gallon pots.

So, in this pic below, you can see the garden goes from left to right, largest to smallest. This is in direct relation to pot size and also those 2nd season plants.

There are 8 rows total, 2 on the outside edges and then 3 "rows" that are 2 buckets/pots wide each in the middle.

From left to right, the far left row are the 2nd year plants in 15 gallon pots.

The next row is 1st year plants in 10 gallon pots.

Next row is 5 gallon buckets.

Next row is 3 gallon pots, and the final row (smallest) on the far right are my spare plants left in the one gallon pots.

Even the ones in 1 gallon pots did produce 15 or 20 pods each still, but just never got taller than 18 inches or so.

Update time!

Things are going well, I have my 3rd intake fan on the way, should be here tomorrow. I also finally cut 3 exhaust vent holes on the top of the tent, opposite side as the intake fans, so air is moving nicely now and temps are staying right Round 75° to 77°. Humidity in the mid 30's

Bumped up the cal-mag with last nights watering to 5ml per gallon, (was at 2ml) just for a little boost. I'll go to 3ml for my normal waterings. Still at 5ml per gal for the CNS17 Grow.

I have to agree with Paul, well done! The plants look super healthy ;)
Thanks guys! I'll get some updated pics posted this weekend. They are getting big FAST. I bumped up my nutes a bit last week. I'm currently watering with 7ml/gal CNS17 grow and 3ml/gal Cal-Mag.

Here we go. Some updated pics! Got a new phone also, Google Pixel 3 XL. This thing takes awesome pics! They do get downgraded a bit in quality though when uploading them using the tappatalk app.

I think I'm going to trim some of the lower foliage this weekend to improve airflow to the soil.
