.....Under the water.....

Most the bottom of the worlds oceans aren't what we think.....most reef activity ceases within a few hundred feet of the surface, most of the deep sea floor is fairly barren and seemingly lifeless....where you see the darndest things, some entirely 'contrary' to what we take(or the what media wants you to believe)would like to be the natural order of things.I will post interesting pics here, just for "hmmms" sake.Comment or not...or post some of your own-
these will not be sourced pics, ie -not from the net(haha)though you may see a few crop up there.HMMMMMM.........

The following pic is from an undisclosed location in 4,028' of water in the Gulf of Mexico. This little oasis , on an otherwise mostly barren sand bottom ,has formed directly because of the existance of an old natural oil seep.
Basically a clump of tar, being a source of food and nutrients first for several types of anearobic bacteria...is the base of the food chain. These are in turn fed upon by the next step up -tiny invertabrates, and plants using converted nutes. Then deepwater coral and various 'pods and ceolenterates(yeah ,no longer valid term, don't remember teh new references to these critters)that feed on thess. This attracts small crabs, larger'pods and small fish.A deepwater reef.

Feeding a Red Snapper out the bell trunk.....365'depth.
Bellsnappersequence.jpg

Led to hand line fishing for same occaissionally(different bell)....Diver taking Bell partners fish out to hang on the outside of the bell ; After we are recovered to the surface and locked onto the TUP/Deck chambers, the catch would be removed and well....use your imagination;)

Yeah, but is there water on Mars? LOL Who cares?
This stuff you're doing is cool! and you get to fish at 365'.... Too awesome!

So when you're "out there" you have a split screen with fish/tar blobs & THP?

You lucky bastige! I would love to be able to catch snapper like that!
I is a bastidge!We can't do it anymore....always a mad little *hole out there
somewhere..."I can't fish so I'm gonna call Wildlife and Fisheries",after a few close calls...where by we knew the little cheesed#$%k, had called, and were
waiting on us in port. The tenders got 128# of fillets that had been frozen,
blew the "down" to us through the gear locks in the transfer chamber;).We were blown down to the equivelent of 580',so they can't look inside(they did just to see the system,we waved ,they waved back).Junior led them to the walk in freezer
its right in here officers......well,uhm,wait its here somewhere....hehehehehe.
Junior was in a pickle, somebody told the officers he was pissed at divers because
he got fired as a tender...he got an ass chewin, blamed for a "revenge"call, and they left.

This reminded me of a WASP job.....water diffusers allow cleaned processed water
to be pumped back to sea under a SPAR platform. Then someone decided 90degree(f)
water was to hot and might kill critters-even though the flow rates are nil....
so then we to cut the bell mouths off of the diffusers, install SMART flanges and drill 2" diameter holes up and down the diffusers---the idea being that flow would be so minimal that it wouldn't heat up the ocean(the global warming gang again).ooooooooOoOooOOOKKAAAAAAAaaaaayyyyyyyy.As this particular platform experienced a diver death 6months prior to this-we could only use one atmosphere
"suit" called a WASP.Divers would've knocked this out in a week easy....WASP being basically a man guided ROV with regular arm strength "arms and manipulators" ie not hydralic powered.

Here is a WASP hamming it up...I've been hoovered.....

The next pic is bolting up the flange....

And because I meant to show more critters....

A whopping 16" of wee shark resting on part of a subsea manifold.

Reminds me of the cajun that was fishin' in da bayou illegally, (Sticks-o-dynomite!)
The fish and Game dept. saw this, jumped in their boat and raced out to him. The cajun listened to them for about 5 minutes,
Then slyly lit a stick-o-dynomite and handed it to one of them and said "You gonna bitch... or you gonna fish?"

edit: (I'm pretty sure the cajun was from New Iberia, and his name started with a D)
