off-topic Using chilli peppers to stop mice

I've been having a mouse problem recently. Don't know how many, but there seems to be a small family living around my kitchen. I presume they live in the walls somewhere and sneak out behind the kitchen units at night. I would rather scare them away than kill them and came across this article which suggested using hot sauce or chilli flakes as a deterrent. Has anyone else tried it? And was it successful?

I use this.

Habanero cheese in no kill traps then transfer them to a safe location

I think if you add chili pepper flakes or oil on the bait will probably make them like peppers or if it's super hot it'll deter them.

Btw I don't think the chilli solution works. There's definitely more of them now than before. Now sure whether it's the chillis or the fact that they are breeding or have brought their mates along to the party. I think I could do with a cat. On a serious note, I purchased a job lot of traps so hoping that does something.

If there are too many, use a warfarin-laced bait. Very effective, but it can be an agonizing end. You have to keep your nose open, in case they perish behind a cupboard. This is not a pleasant solution, but mice and rats are truly pests and are hosts to several diseases.
