misc Viability for these 4oz Widemouth Mason/Ball jars as dipping sauce containers

I found these one day in Wal-Mart for pretty cheap.  Just under $1 each.  I'm wondering as to the viability of producing products in small-batch levels with these.  I'm sure I can find a better buy line elsewhere than a retail store... but as a wide-mouth, shallow container, it would be great for dipping.

These are the entries I am submitting to the Durham Fair in Durham, CT (pretty large regional Agricultural Fair)

Kickin' Blackstrap Rib Sauce, Carolina Mustard & Vinegar, Cinder Small-Batch and Chaffinch Island Dressing (Orange-Horseradish dipping sauce)

They seem just as durable as the regular wide-mouth Mason Jars.  They just seem quite compact and I've sold some of the dipping sauce in them already.  A few of the customers said "They looked so cute" - one woman ran into me later and said she kept the jar and put quarters in it.

Anyone else use these?

These squat 8 oz. jars are excellent for your sauces, with the wide mouth giving easy access for dipping, etc.  The plastic lids are a bit pricey, so if you're going to sell them, I'd stay with the metal lids that came with the jars.

These jars will probably outlast your children/grandchildren if used/stored properly.

Good choice!  ;)

Can you get them locally or do you have to order them online?

I buy them locally at a kitchen store near me that has the best section of Ball I have ever seen!

http://www.kitchenandcompany.com/ They are way cheaper than the link you posted.
