WalkGood 2013, 2014 and Beyond

This is my first Glog so excuse what ever mess I may create, lol. Took way to many pictures today (31), so Ill post the first 9 and add more in subsiquent posts but didn't think it a good idea to start out doube or triple posting just for additional pics. I will also be updating the thread over time to show growth, pods and such ... but the first few pics of are of the young ones. While Ive been growing my favorite peppers for around 17 years (guess, lol), I always limited myself to 3 varieties or less. Jamaican peppers/Hab, Jalapeño and Cayenne. When things got too tuff Id milk them till they died off and stop growing for a while and start fresh. Most years I only grew the Jamaicans which are my favorite for cooking, home made sauce and the occasional powder to rub meats with or put into certain recipes.

Current inventory:
  • 5 Jalapeño
  • 1 Cayenne
  • 1 Serrano
  • 7 Datil
  • 15 Jamaican Habs (3 large around 3 years old and 12 less than year old)
  • 12 more to be determined
The young ones below are not that old with the oldest being the JA Habs which are around 3 years old now. I happen to find THP site while looking for advice/knowledge to cure one of my Jalapeños, thanks for all the good info guys/girls! In 2012 I added Datil, Thai hot, Cayenne, Jalapeño and Serrano to the mix, totaling around 41 plants now. Hats off \o_ to those of you who grow many more, dont know how you find the time and patients when things go off. That said, Ive done my fair share of battling aphids, nematodes, snails and white fly to no end over the last 3 years. Fortunately I believe to have things under control for now so Ive decided to add 12 new peppers to the mix from the listed seeds shown below.

Ill select 12 to start near end of December or first week in January from the seeds below and give credit once I get some new ones going :)

Need to start clearing our yard to grow more & more & more peppers ;) (*WG rollseyes*)

Top left to right: two Thai Hot and one Cayenne. Bottom row all Datil. BTW I don't grow everything in clay pots, just happen to get a good deal on a bunch in yard sale for a few bucks.

Huge live Oak in background, there's 5 of them in front yard so the shades hard to avoid in first few hours of sun rise.

8 Jamaican Habs in ground and cherry tomatoe in the pot, I need to find a good place to plant the tomatoe soon.

Top left Serrano and more Datil, I'm probably going to gift a few Datils for xmass and some of the other peppers

Edit: This list is constantly being updated as new hooks pop. Even though I lost #5 :/ I will not give up as there are 2 other seeds in dat egg mon ....

A few links to some of my better posts ;)Did you say powder?Did you say MoA?Black light night shots & horn wormsReviews and taste impressions in no order

@Tom, How many times a month are you spraying coffee? So far I've hit them light 3 times a week but think that might be too much? Maybe I'll go every other week with coffee and inbetween hit them with seaweed spray, great stuff everyone should be looking for some of this tea or emulsion IMHO.

MoA update: They’re all getting more leaves but no water. I am a little concerned because over night they gett too much moisture from the air as no rain been falling. They wake up with a slightly purple stem and the soil feels really moist but that goes away during the day, too much water? I seriously don't want to bring them inside, they love a full days sun ^_^

Serrano pepper is one of the ones that has coffee for ground cover and I am spraying with coffee. While it’s only been on a few days; no stem/stalk burn, not one ant seen as before, less leaves turning yellow and falling off or maybe this is all in my dreams ;) Don’t know if that has anything to due with the coffee but these are things I've noted. BTW it’s loaded with pods for a small plant that’s only 15 inches tall.

The other 2 coffee test plants are doing well, not much noticeable changes other than what mentioned above. The Jamaican Habs are podding up but don’t look like they’ll be as big as before Christmas, dam that cold weather, hehe. Here’s a pic of a strange looking one:

And one with a nice shade of green … hard to cature I guess :/

That’s it, been a little lazy lately and I haven’t noticed any huge changes to photograph but I’ll keeping my eye out. BTW to all the south FL growers, I’ve spotted a few hornworms around so keep you eyes pealed on dem plants. Fortunately the one’s I’ve seen were not on my peppers.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Couldn't resist, one last MoA pick for you Steve ... can't wait to see and try the pods!

Walkgood, they look perfect mon! I'd say keep doin what your doin brudda! I have an awesome looking Walkgood hab seedling. I'll post a pic if ya don't mind.
Post away, no problema mon. I don't think I can capture the purple stems in those little tiny pots but I guess if it goes away during the day it's ok? BTW I should have never said no rain, it will now come sometime today the way it looks outside, lol. That said, I pulled the MoA's out of that possibility as I don't know if their stems can handle it yet. But they're very strong, winds have been 25+ knots and they're not bending much :)

Lookin Good, Walks!

I got to thinking, coffee, being that it is going to soak up some nitrogen temporarily, might be good to shift the plant from vegetative gear to pod gear.

What do you all think?
Thanks Carl for the positive vibe! I honestly don’t know the answer to your question on coffee as it’s way to early to tell for me. The JA Hab that’s full of pods does not have coffee on top soil but does have less than 10% in the soil mix. It’s one of my oldest plants and very dependable for production. The Serrano pepper just got the coffee on top soil the day I first posted about it, but it already had pods on the way so I can’t tell if there’s any difference there. But I can say it’s flowering like all get out and it wasn’t before the coffee, again this is only an observation and I can not tell you for sure that the coffee caused all dem flowers. But I can tell you that visually the plant looks way better than before the coffee. Lets wait and see if Tom replies to our questions, if not I’m sure you could pm him and reference the post if needed.

Thanks fore checking and commenting guys!

Here ya go bud, thanks again!
*JA Hab Picture*
Wow, looks great … I can’t wait till you post some pod pictures here and tell me what you think of the flavor :)

True leaves unfolding on the little ones, and pods changing on the bigger ones...you really are walking good!
Thank you, you’re not only a great pepper farmer but I’ve noticed that you’re an excellent descriptive writer ^_^

Those MoA's look great!
I’ll take that complement from Mr. Andretti both on the track and in da garden, thanks :)

BTW if you guys like powder, I just posted romy6’s blended powder review here, hope you enjoy the read! And as always, thank you for stopping by and commenting ^_^

Those MoA's look like crap! .......j/k picture perfect mon!
lol, you had me going ;)

Good looking plants and nice update. Coffee is a prime ingredient in my compost bin. We drink a pot a day here!
Thanks Chris ^_^ we also enjoy fresh ground coffee daily, love da stuff!

Very nice looking plants! The coffee must be making them extra perky.
Thanks Stefan, don’t know about making them perky but the ones that have coffee grounds as ground cover haven’t seen an ant since I did that. Also the stalks are holding fine, no burn or anything. Although it does hold moisture when you water them.

Great pictures, surpassed only by the awesome pods! Nice one!
Thanks Lourens but I don’t have as many wonderful subjects to shoot as you, hehe.

Isn't it time you made me slobber from food porn, Ramon? ;)
For you da moon muchacha ;) I’ll try to get some up soon, but lately I’ve been eating as fast as I cook. Strange I’m not fat, must be all dem chilies :D

Jalapeño pods on one of the plants I’m spraying with coffee. A clear benefit I have seen so far is that no ants are on the plant any more and as you know they are one culprit that plants aphid eggs.Look close and you can see da coffee stains on the pods, hope they don't OD ;)

Edit: BTW did anyone get the chance to read my romy6 pepper powder review? I’m a little surprised by the lack of comments, naturally good and bad as I can learn to improve from the bad ones or ideas that some of you have.

As always, thanks for looking and if I miss your glog, don’t be shy … feal free to link me here in a post, I understand we all have limited time, thanks again!

beautiful pictures and pods! Glad there are a lot of Jalapeno people still! I will always love Japs and Serranos. Keep fighting the good fight down (and over) there!

Nice corking on those jals, Ramon! Whateva ya doing keep doing it! All I gots is frozen jals :mope: but that will too change. And the photography of the serrano flower es de puta madre! ;) Excellent.

And Ramon, una cosa mas (always right?); would you provide link to the coffee tea/grinds unless your idea and if so, I'm reading the pages of this Glog I missed. Not many but . . . considered it for onions I planted today once they get up a little, with their own shoots. Need nitrogen/cal/mag, all in dilute coffee. Iffin ya don't mind? ;)

Annie on this post it’s hot linked in the quote “coffee cyads’ …,” but that article is not about peppers. Tom stated he's working on one for peppers and I hope he links us soon. I have always mixed coffee in my soil since I was young per mom and abuelo's advice but never used as spray. Apologies there seems to be confusion the way I link things as others have asked. Maybe a little explanation, to hot link a word on most forums you do like this below:
