Around here (Cincy) lots of people are skipping layouts at a funeral home and doing it in a church, just before the service starts. They are also skipping obits - at $500 for a short one, they figure people who care will know the person is dead, who his/her family is, etc.
My wife and I are both donating our bodies to the local university. Parts will be used for living humans, parts will be studied, what's left will be cremated and the ashes given to the kids (or one of us if we don't die at the same time).
I couldn't care less about having a piece of ground someplace with a rock on top of it saying my rotted body (or ashes) are under it. I doubt in 2112 anyone will care (or know) about me unless it is to fill in a blank on a genealogy chart.
