wanted Wanted - Rocoto

These were in my friends luggage when she flew back here.
She braught me the pods as a suprise a few years ago,I'd never had a Rocoto before so she braught me a couple pods(3 rocoto and 2 Aji Amarillo).

You have a point about pests, she now brings me seed packs only.Much less hassle in general.

I think the seeds are ok as long as they are properly labled-Habanero-C.Chinense or whatever.

Cal. and other states are having our forests killed by some kind of beatle that was braught over from some other country that totally wipes out large sections of forest.

With the advances in travel these days, something can fly or crawl on a jet and be anywhere in the world in a matter of hours. If it happens to be an egg laddened female we are screwed.
Some stuff just hitches a ride in a crate on a freighter too.

That's good to hear.
Yep as long as it is labelled "Habanero, Capsicum Chinense" (if that is what you are getting) and it is free of soil etc and packaged then there are usually no problems at all.
Even customs can miss things. I had dried pods sent to me from India and when I opened them noticed there was moths in them. Had to throw them out as they couldn't be used and no refund has been given. It would've been better if customs found it and confiscated it.

As a side note.
Last time she went home for a visit her daughter put some empasadas(SP?) in her carry on luggage to snack on...
It alerted the drug sniffer dogs.

They searched all her luggage, opened it etc.
They strip searched her too.
I guess some people put stuff like food in their luggage so when the luggage gets searched they find the food and think that is what set the dog off where the suitcase is really lined with drugs.
Now they told her she is on the watched list and will be searched everytime she goes anywhere out of the U.S.
She travels to a lot of different countries for her job - which also made customs suspicious.Lots of passport use...

All because of a couple empasadas.

Instead of just walking through and doing the x ray thing she has to go in a room and wait for her luggage to get thoroughly checked out.
It takes her a lot longer to get to the plane.
Has to go to the airport hours earlier now.
Smaggling is smuggling as far as customs is concerned.

With homeland security and customs like it is,is it really worth trying to get a few pods through.

If she brings me seeds from fresh pods, she doesn't dry them, just puts them in a labled paper envelope and I dry them once I get them. The paper lets the seeds dry and they never are in there longer than a day anyway.
Something to think about before trying to bring in a few pods.

They let processed pods in-Pickled or canned stuff but not fresh.
Thats why the watered pods got through that one time.
Might not get through now though, things are much stricter.

Not worth the hassle if they decide to open the jar and see they aren't pickled/processed.

You really don't want to be on the watched list.
Smuggling is smuggling to them.
You are now considered a bad guy that needs checking out.

From what she said, your name gets on the list as a person of interest-no reason why so the guys who search your luggage only know you did something wrong and got caught.
Could have been anything from empasadas to drugs or anything else as far as they are concerned.

A rocoto might be considered a weapon.
Fly this plane to Cuba or I'll rub Rocoto in your eyes...LOL
