Website hosting companies

I should have just kept my mouth closed and seen how the thread developed. Would have had some good insight for me on how people search for hosting companies.

If you look at the first few replies, it was strictly cost based.

I'm really interested in what motivates people when they purchase hosting. Hosting not only feeds my chili addiction, it feeds my daughter. This kind of insight is invaluable!
 
There are lots of fly-by-night resellers that close up shop or offer delayed support due to being a middle man. All I said was to ask if they own the datacenter (not the property, it can be a long lease). If they do that is a plus, and of course keep asking more important questions. I'm sure you offer a good service. You don't happen to own the datacenter and have taken what I said personally. There is enough info here for IGGY to make some informed decisions. :)

Upset? nah. I've just never seen someone use owning the datacenter as a decision making factor when choosing a host. I was really curious what benefit that provides from a service perspective and basically had typographical diarrhea while thinking it through.

There are indeed TONS of fly by night piece of crap companies out there.

And even the best of companies can F*up pretty good (thus my whole, backup backup backup! bit).

That's true. My comment was to steer IGGY in the right direction. Surely there are datacenter owners that suck, and co-los that rock. It was just a good "starting point" question to ask, in my opinion. Not a litmus test.

I was actually talking more about the plain ole resellers though. Not even colos. Just resellers selling plans. Stay away from those. They buy from someone, so go to the source and cut out the middle man. If you ask the datacenter question you can find out if they are owners, colos, or resellers. Resellers will be the ones with the sketchy answer. lol

If I offerd him a plan, it's be after I'd generated one in WHM that matched BOTH of our needs.

Give me some stats Jon, monthly b/w, yearly b/w, Mb used, scripts needed, expectations, etc.

I don't over sell, nor do I promise what I can't deliver.

His site is nearly all 1990's static HTML design at best and gets very few hits...less than I do posting to forums.

I do whitelist. You see my images because I say so.

No offense Jon...I'm just dead honest. ;)

I could host you on my reseller account, and you'd never know.

Diff is, I take barter... ;-)
