A guy from America sent these to me as part of packaging for something else.
I'm curious to know what they are. Do any of you guys know?

I'll bet they are Castor Beans. Keep 'beans' away from kids. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castor_oil_plant

They grow easily, can become huge plants. Some varieties have exceptionally beautiful foliage.
Great looking background plants (if you have the space). Likes rich. moist soil. Produces lots of 'beans'
They repel insects, moles, etc. because leaves and 'beans' are poisonous if eaten.
The source of castor oil, and you know what your body's reaction to that stuff is....

Looks like castor bean to me. I'd avoid eating it like the plague, since Ricin is derived from it, and even a tiny amount is lethal, and was the poison of choice for the Soviets back in the day because of how small the 50LD is for Ricin, and if I recall, there's no known antidote. Definitely not good for kids & pets.

they look like either CALICO,ROMAN,OR PINTO BEANS

My guess would be PINTO BEANS there the most common beans that look like that
however as SAINT PATRICK said if they are CASTOR BEANS there poisonous!! if i were you i would contact the fellow you got them from and find out for certain
thanks your friend Joe

hmmm castor beans! not cool! I've sent the guy a message but had no reply!
unless he gets back to me soon I might have to kill this bean!
thanks guys!

Why not let the one grow out that you have started and then post up a pic and we will all see what it is?
Shouldn't be to hard to tell then what it really is.

By comparing pics on the internet, I'd say they are pinto beans.

Magic beans,Tomorrow you can climb it and grab the goose that lays the golden eggs.

I think they are pinto beans.

If I remember right, the eye of the castor bean isn't in the middle. It's at the end.

Not true! From a quick Google search: "Biting into a castor plant isn’t a lethal experience; neither is swallowing a castor bean. Ricin is a purified poison, not the plant itself."
Our yards are full of very toxic plants....Digitalis, Oleander, Rhododendron, etc, etc.

Booo, not MAGIC Beans...no golden eggs to start out the New Year with. :)

Since you have ordinary Pintos, here is a link you might like.
