That's the same thing I'm planning on doing this winter. My Orange Habs are so far behind right now that I'm not sure that I'll even get a ripe pod off them before the weather turns. I have exactly two large pods on them right now that MAY ripen up before fall and a couple dozen smaller habs on each plant that I have no hope for. I should've started them in December.
I have a grand total of 90 growing days here in central B.C. and that was cut short because of all the cold days we had at the beginning of the year. The cooler than normal temps haven't helped any either.
5 months indoor? My climate is too rough for planting out, so I only grow indoors. My last round of chinense were planted early june, and now the largest ones are close to 20" tall in 1 gal pots, under 2 x 250 CFLs. Don't think I would have waited another 3 month before plantout, if that was my plan.
