When life gives you lemons

This has been the suckiest summer on record. First, the 3 weeks of 105º+ weather, then the Carlton complex burnt the shit out of everything, (Washington state's biggest fire in recorded history), then the winds and rains came and has washed out homes that narrowly survived the fire. Two highways are washed out and the entire community of Benson Creek is evacuated because of the threat of flash flooding and mudslides. I heard 10 homes were washed away just up Benson Creek alone.

Anyway, a friend of ours that works at our grocery store (Hank's) had this experience today and thought I would share it...
A checker accidentally charged a customer for 100 lemons instead of 1 (they are $1 each here) so he wanted his credit card credited the money. While they were sorting that out, a woman next in line started crying because she just won $100 scratch ticket and she was one of the people that her home washed away Thursday night. Next thing my friend knew, the man with the lemon issue was gone and the manager walked up and handed the woman $99. He said it was the customer in front of her in line. He opted for the cash instead of credit and decided to perform a random act of kindness.

Stories like that are happening here all the time, some we hear about but I am sure there are many more stories no one will ever know. With all of the utter destruction happening to our friends, neighbors and community, stories like that help to keep things in check.

Mother nature gets the big middle finger from me this year. I just hope old man winter doesn't have his knickers in a wad.

well, Washington state has probably the most gorgeous scenery of any state i know of... i used to fly all around that state it in flight sim. 10... just to look at all the cool mountains and lakes etc.

even with all the bullshit, hopefully the good will continue to outweigh the bad.

Yeah QQ, it is definitely a gorgeous place. Typically. Everything North, East and South of us is black right now. Next Spring will be a new color of green tho. Except for all the black sticks (trees), Spring will be lush and new looking. I still wouldn't live anywhere else. And I guarantee, when the first snow flies, the world will here one big collective "WOOHOO!" from all of us here.

Here are some pics I pulled from the web.

Twisp is just to the left of the fire scar where 20 meets 153. Carlton (where SalsaLady is) is right in the middle about where the flame graphic is.

Thanks Rym. Me too. I am dreading another '96 when we got 68" of snow in 48 hours. The way this 2014 has been going, I am a little worried.

Scov, the way things are going, I'd be more worried about 68" of frogs. (I hate to imagine what 68" of boils would look like…)

I've dubbed this the 'Summer of Biblical Weather"

after the ---
thunderstorms
lightening caused fires
more thunderstorms'
EPIC FIRESTORM of July 17th that destroyed 200+homes
power outages from 5 days to 3 weeks
Hail storm up Twisp River
ANOTHER micro-thunderstorm with winds up to 85 mph
winds blew down a power pole that caught the neighbor's field on fire
ANOTHER!!!! thunderstorm..the Signal Hill Fire-12 more homes destroyed\
2 weeks later---Flash Flooding!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've already found ticks in the yard which we've never had before so I think that takes care of the Locust/insect category....

But......I guess BOILS are still in queue.......

for those that have FB, check out the photos in the Methow Valley News page-

Do you think there is time to get the Ark built?

Hopefully everyone in the affected areas makes it through OK.

Mother Nature can be a real biatch !!!
We had the 'Black Saturday' fires around where I live back in Feb 2009. 173 people were killed and over 2000 homes were destroyed :(
