Hit them with the light now. I don't know the exact time frame but it is optimal to leave the lights on 24/7 for the first few weeks.

It is always better to get light on them earlier than later. This will prevent them from getting leggy.

Yep pour the light to them. I move them under the lights as soon as I see a hook breaking through. Keep the lights on 24/7 for the first 5-7 weeks or so. Also get yourself a small fan and set it up to blow on your seedlings for about 10-20 minutes twice a day. It really helps them thicken up as well as help prevent dampening off, fungus etc. from growing.

Light should be applied 24/7 for the first 6 to 7 weeks, then reduce the amount. Make sure that you get the seedlings as close to the fluorescents without burning them. With my T8's I have them about an inch or two away and I keep a fan on em giving them a gentle breeze to help cool the lights. Where in Il are you?

i am 5 minutes from stlouis and i am using the ecosmart 100w bulb so i will keep an eye on them  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rs_QRorECvo&feature=related this is what i build for my lighting

sorry what i ment was a dome over the plants should that stay on for a while or should it come off right away

Oh, ok. Do you have more seedlings waiting to germinate in there or is it an individual dome on each one? If there are more waiting to germinate, just leave the dome on for them. The seedlings are fine staying under a dome for now. If all the seedlings are germinated or you have individual domes you can take them off as soon as they germinate.

If they're in individual cells in a mini greenhouse you can just transplant the seedlings into pots and leave the rest in there to germinate. I prefer to wait a week or so after they germinate to let them get more established before I transplant though. I have a tendency to occasionally kill seedlings if I try to transplant them right after they pop up. :o

Can you take the seedling out? I've found that they get fairly leggy with the dome on because it diffuses the light a fair amount. Taking it off won't hold the humidity in for the other seeds and defeat the purpose of the setup.

Mine get a little leggy with the dome on too, but I don't think it's much of a problem because I just bury them deep when I transplant...
