Who's up for a challenge?

I'd be up for it if you want to contrast a higher quality light fixture vs the 100 watt full spectrum daylight bulb for an experiment to see how leggy mine get under that.

You tell me what seed, I'm thinkin something quick... maybe a store bought, Bell, , cubanelle, or whatever, I'm not lookin who can grow the hottest, I'm thinkin a lil experimentation here... it will be a winter learnin experience... gettin cold here, gonna be low 60's... Burrrrrrrr.... I just think it would be interesting to see what can be done under cheap Fl's. Who knows what might happen. I say 10 seeds to start, 4 to finish... 60 days... let the forum be the judge.
Kirk Out...

I was thinking you wanted to grow something more exotic. I just purchased a T5 set up for starting seeds, but don't think it can support a plant very well once it gets much bigger than 8" - 12" (from what I've read). I have been curious how long it would take me to get a superhot up to around that size so i'm currently running my own little experiment. My goal is to see exactly how long it takes to get that size so I can work backwards from my average first frost (mid April) so I know exactly when to start my seeds and how I can best utilize the space under the light. Here's how it's going (or growing) so far... this is a Bhut from Chili Pepper Institute..

It's growing faster than I expected! I think I might have my hands full trying to keep this guy happy over the winter, sure would hate to see my first one take one for the team.

Just made a box yesterday in preparation for the cold weather we just got this afternoon. Id be up for the challenge but my grow box is being taken up by a chocolate bhut jolokia plant. Your idea does seem pretty fun though and I hope someone can do it with you!

Edit: forgot to add I have 150 actual watts of fluorescent lighting. Is that enough to grow fruits? I know its enough to fully grow two cannabis plants so I figured id be good

That would be a challange...

I grow with tubes at the start, they work fine until the branching starts, but to finish the grow is like running up an incline at the end of a "Marathon"

I prefer to fire up my HID's........end result...bigger, better, badass, plants!

Just my opinion...

Indy, Pepper Guru... Ok If anyone else wants in speak up now. Chime in contenders... Seed, TBD. Like I stated 10 seeds to start, any medium. Hydro, dirt, thin air... or what ever else. Best four to the finish of 60 days. Not lookin to grow pods, but I'm sure that would help put ya in the lead. Pics every 5 days...= 12 sets of pics with some sort of scale. Quarter to start. At 60 days, the forum votes for 4 plants of each person. Might be tallest, bushiest, pods, greenest, who knows. Maybe a slow grower, or a fast one... chime in. Well figure seeds out. hell i don't care if it's an unnamed store bought, just leave it a surprise until day 60. So basically the only person who knows what pepper is being grown is the person picking and mailing the seed to each contestant. Sound like a plan?

I have some seed of chili chili like in the pics of bakers peppers. Real short plants that should do well under plain old florescent lights because they are only about 4 to 6 inches tall with their peppers sticking straight up another 2 inches. So lights do not need to be powerful to reach the lower leaves as compared to a pepper that grows a couple feet tall or taller.

I have fresh seed drying right now about 100 seeds so can handle even a few more joining in if this is the choice. I can get more seed as well.

We grow all of our peppers under flourescents only, seems towork for us. Peppers like simple and McGyver'd growing systems work fine IMO. What you want to grow? I'm interested.
