will my pods mature???

half way through autumn and i still have some fantastic looking habanero pods growing on one of my plants... only thing is... the temperatures are nice and mild at night but never getting above 22 - 23 degrees celcius during the day... will these pods mature??? will it just take longer or are they going to have trouble???

I'm waiting to find out the same thing. ;)

The last of my pods are sure taking their sweet time to ripen, but at least they seem to still be getting there eventually.

your up Northern NSW. so I wouldn't give up hope yet, I'm down south and I've still got a bit of a chance before jack frost gets here

theyre still growing... so i suppose thats a bonus... who knows.. they might just keep growing and end up the size of capsicums by september!!! :woohoo:

If the temps get too cold, they will stop maturing. However, if you overwinter without severely pruning, the plant will lose its leaves but keep the pods, and the pods will finish ripening in the spring.

Also, if it gets too cold for the plants, you can always strip them and toss them in a brown paper bag to ripen the rest of the way. It does work.

you shouldn't worry about the day temps too much, it's the night temps you should worry about.

what's the lowest night temp is like there now?

coz if it gets too cold, the plant will abandon the pods and drop 'em.

I live in adelaide, while i dont really have any risk of frost, it is getting cold.
Most of my plants are still generating new flowers and new pods. Most of them are still ripening, but i am waiting and watching to see when i need to cut them all back.

I've noticed that all my newly forming pods are doing that. They start forming but then a couple days later they just drop.

All others that have been on the bush prior to the last week or two are still hanging on though.

if it helps, my very neglected douglah has just started turning pods.. so far 4/5 have started to get some colour and I'm in Sydney.. I think you're in with a chance :)

if the temps dips down to around 10-12C difference from your day temps then you should worry.

if not, then you'll be fine. =D

it also works the same when it gets too hot.

it's hot and dry season out here and my plants drop pods like crazy when it gets too hot.

now it's starting to rain, so i shouldn't worry about the heat so much anymore.

thanks guys... the night temps are only varying by about 6-7 degrees atm.... however i think i will look at pruning it back as it is sitting next to a 7 x 12 foot plot that im getting ready for next season and its probably going to get in the way !! i might try the apple method with them....
