Wimpy's at it again 2023

"I feel reborn. I'm like a phoenix rising from Arizona.”as Frank Costanza would say. Been awhile, let's go. Peppers where gifted to me yes in a pizza box. TFM yellow SB that were from long family of peppers ,from seeds gifted to him by moi ,from seeds peppers from yes, the Trenton Farmers market. Breath. The other a bhut/reaper mix that he likes for sauces. Ok, let's start, seeds where taken from ripest pods and air dried in coffee filters then zip locked. Germ went good with both being viable stock. Getting 18 hrs under 150w CFL and plant gro bulb. Thinned weakest and planted 2nd germ. Starting second sets of true leaves on 1st and growing strong. Maybe solo cups soon.

So medical glitches have me behind, hope they're getting new homes in the next day or two. In the sun again and gave them a little drink. Everything's ready and it's a go. Sea Ya--

Done, so they're settling in their new homes. 7 made the cut, 4 TFM Scotch's and 3 Bhut/Reap cross. Gave them a good bottom watering and nestled them in. Other's will go in greenhouse which has been 70*n/ 80*d for a friend.

Gave them 1st drink(rainwater) and rotated position. The scotches have pushed up and can definitely tell difference in strain's. Still at 16hrs with an added 800 lumen CFL daylight to fill in leaf shade. Till then.

Geez, get busy for a couple days and they take off. Another 1-2 sets of leaves develop and start a little top leaf wave. Backed off the lights and give them a little break. Could've went one more day before watering but gave them a cocktail anyway. 10 second count of 1tbsp Jobes Tomato, .5tsp Espoma Garden lime in rainwater with .5 tsp of epsom salt.

So after several cold snaps, here's one of three survivors I've been nursing back. Lost plant marker will make this one a surprise pod moment, either scotch bonnet or not. Have two reaper mix greening up and taking more sun. Gaining some better growth spurts and monitoring water after a bout of cold weather root rot. Caught it early, did a H2O2 wash and put it in a heavy perlite medium. It'll make it.

Topping of #1 looks perfect and nice growth spurt going on. Covering thru out these storms to keep control of moisture. Here's #2 with a strange growth tip thing going on, got plans. Some buds popping out and starting to color up more. These blazing sun blasts and rain have a little leaf curl going, meh. Gonna set up some screening for it till it gets acclimated.

Here's #3, similar to #1 . Potted up to a 2gal, gonna see how it goes. Roots were healthy white and just reaching the bottom and sides. Screening really perked up #2 and leaf curl isn't getting any worse.

#2 has come back with a vengeance. Have it training in a wind swept style and also first plant with pods! Flowers are remaining on plant even with this extreme sun and heat. Plenty of flowers are set with help of battery op toothbrush (swear it works). Really happy with recovery, tip of the hat to site for lot of trials and tribulations that helped with it. Definitely a difference between plants, but pods will give it away. The anticipation is killing me, ain't it great.

So we have a match, #2 pods and yes it's loaded with them aren't similar to the Scotch Bonnets from which the seeds originated from. These are suppose to be ghost/reaper cross, we'll see how the strain holds. So much for plant markers. Flowers are set on #1/#3 so pods should start showing shapes in maybe a week. Everything got scratched with some Dr.Earth Tom and 1/2 dose of bone meal and mulch fluffed.

1st SB pod appears, then another, etc. It's so wild, you can see every week's worth of flowers affected by weather. Two weeks ago, optimal temps- flowers set fruit, then heat wave three weeks ago, flowers yellowed and dropped. We just finished up extreme heat/humidity for 4 days and flowers didn't even open buds. One shake and instant prune. Excited for the next 7-10 with mid 80's day- mid/+60's night for hopefully large fruit set coming into Dog Days of Aug. Yeah, I'm a nerd. Gave everyone a prune of older bottom leaves and opened up for fruits.

Flowering and setting went perfect before this next heat wave. In the stretch now, little touch of bone meal, epsom and Dr Earth and leave it to the pepper gods. Pruned up and healthy.

Day 40, 1st of 3 original pods starting a yellow hue wrapping around top of pepper. This is plant #1 (ghost x reaper ?), Pods seem dense, thick wall and plenty. New flower growth has almost all set from last week. All three plants have had a nice growth spurt coming into a almost perfect growing conditions with plenty of new buds forming. Already planning a small plastic tunnel for the trio to lengthen harvest past frost date (Oct 18th).

Love harvest day, starting to remove pods as they reach peak ripeness, process and freeze for now. Juicy, crisp and placentas glistening with capsaicin oils. As you can see the Scotch Bonnets were crossed but kept sweet fruity aroma with slow throat burn that leaves quickly. The Bhut/Reaper has that floral aroma with tart cherry under tones but then the stinging heat takes over and comsumes your entire head. Luv it. Still a lot of pods to go. Enjoy
