Wimpy's at it again 2023

"I feel reborn. I'm like a phoenix rising from Arizona.”as Frank Costanza would say. Been awhile, let's go. Peppers where gifted to me yes in a pizza box. TFM yellow SB that were from long family of peppers ,from seeds gifted to him by moi ,from seeds peppers from yes, the Trenton Farmers market. Breath. The other a bhut/reaper mix that he likes for sauces. Ok, let's start, seeds where taken from ripest pods and air dried in coffee filters then zip locked. Germ went good with both being viable stock. Getting 18 hrs under 150w CFL and plant gro bulb. Thinned weakest and planted 2nd germ. Starting second sets of true leaves on 1st and growing strong. Maybe solo cups soon.

So, here we are , beginning Dec with two of the coldest mornings so far. Garden's ripped up and being covered in mulched grass and leaves for the upcoming winter months. Inside, saving seeds and drying pods is almost done. But yet my Scotch Bonnets are ripening the hand pollinated flowers from a month ago. Out of 30+ flowers ended up with 9 that are now starting to ripen. Used both a battery toothbrush and a fine paint brush, toothbrush was more productive. Only one took some possible tam o shanter characteristics, all very meaty and solid like past pods. Pods are half the size as summer pods and imagine it's from some stresses. Came in under 150w cfl lights until leaves dropped off maple out front, now it sits in a sw/w window with my overwintering basil plants. Grandson wants to put lights on it for the Holidays, currently looking for a small battery string to surprise him with. Enjoy

Last couple hand pollinated pods are turning just in time for the Holidays. As I'm preparing the first couple pods I'm noticing a lot of placenta and minimal seeds. I know the amount of stresses the plant was under while pollinating, is this the result? This was the first 100% multiple flower hand pollination. Grandson wants to decorate the plant he helped grow all summer for Santa so he can take some peppers back for Mrs Claus.

Long time , still here and hope everyone's well. Over winter project--
Both Reaper/Ghost plants just recently quit. Dead.
Scotch Bonnet has 4 overripe pods left on it and they'll go in some half sours.
Annnd looky, flowers and plenty of them on every branch. And almost time to gettem ready for hardening. Got my brushes ready.

Time fly's, period. So here are the girls on day 5 of hardening. Conditions couldn't be better, overcast, some sun -80/+/-60. The survivors are
My own Scotch Bonnet (3)
Red Savina (4)
Sweet Banana (11)
My overwinter shot out flowers after the first good fert since fall. Hand pol. and have one ripen and 5 more green pods. Gets a root clean up and a new home, more to come.
And I've found a worthy opponent -
Petunia's
And I do mean Petunia's.
From seed, it's been trying.
Flat +1/2- Marigold's recouping after a little sunscald.
A Pumpkin surprise in the works for my Grandson.
And second planting of peas are in.

So far growing has been going ok with good transplant temps/water in ground and containers. We've had several 90* days and everything's adapted but now this heat waves moving in on us with up to 96*+ for looks like a week. My banana peppers are at least 12/15 per plant x 11 plants and half grown. Rest of plant filled with flowers. The red savinas and scotches(F-2) have set fruit and keep on pumping out flowers. The Savinas just keep on splitting growth tips like I've never seen. One might be trained canopy style? The over wintered Scotch mother plant has multi buds from every node along with set fruit, stopped counting at 80 pods, est @ 120ish. Peas are still flowering but waning. So with the extended heat wave coming, up went shade covering for all the peppers till further notice. Maters can hold their own outside of maybe dropping first set of flowers. The cherries are twined and aggressively growing as are the celebrity's and Rutgers. Supersonic is healthy but just no growth burst after

transplanting. Pumpkins have lost first two female flowers but it's still young with about 10' vines. The corn and beans are loving it, given them plenty of water and up to 5" of mulch so far. Jumping in the pool , more pics later.

First ripened Red Savina of the season. Full of deep flavors, crunchy with a heat that built up and stayed warm but not overbearing. Made a quick Mac salad with roughly 1/3 of the pepper. Yeah. These are going to make a great relish, ?.many more starting to turn.

Poor plant couldn't take it anymore, so off with their heads. The ripe SB' s were plentiful, picked all ripe w/half still green on mother plant. A couple Savina's where ripening up so they went also. All are being shipped today north to a brother of mine for some condiments he makes that he ships back. He has no time or interest in having a garden but we both end up with plenty of product.
