Windchicken Grow 2012

Looks like I'm getting a late start again this year...Should be setting seeds to sprout in the next few days....Anyway, here's the order I made from Beth this morning. It's not really my complete grow list, because I'm planting lots of saved seeds (from my 2011 Grow and from trades with my THP friends) for the first time this year. Also, I don't know that I will plant everything from this order, but I am excited about some of the new varieties:

Peppermania%205Jan2012.jpg

Absent from the above list but going in the ground this year:
Trinidad Scorpion
Congo Trinidad
True Jamaican Scotch Bonnet
Thai Chile (Garden Bird Seed variety)
Nambe Pueblo
Birgit's Locoto

Several bird types from THP friends, including, but not limited to (because I can't remember them all right now):
Texas Chiltepin
Prik Ki Nue
Siling Labuyo
Cumari do Para

Edited 1/9/2012 to add the following:

Last minute order from Hippy, plus some other trades I had forgotten about:
Yellow 7 Pot
Douglah
Malagueta
Pusa Jwala

I got back to the field garden today after being away for a couple weeks, and to my surprise, the Guampinha de Veado stumps from last season had sprouted new growth! These plants overwintered in the ground! DUDE!!! SWEET!!! Below are photos of 3 separate stumps. I'm crossing my fingers waiting for the other 3 to sprout:

That is exciting, just this variety survived?

Most amazily sharp eye to spot that that first green nub on the trunk! What are the origins of the G. de veado? Thats a new one to me?

,Holy Toledo!............look at the trunk on that girl.........
Gary,
Theres more foliage at the base of that plant than some of my indoor plants!
Man I love the photo of those red chili's.............. ..................what constrast
i have to go back and stare at that photo.......too many chili's to count......though........lol

Its getting pretty exciting with the weather were having up here.
I hope your climate is ahead of the game.
I'm waiting for my 1st combo "Congo-lishish" hot sauce..........hmm, ......just need some fresh pods. The way the plants are growing it'll be mid July

Greg

Good grief. :)

They're pretty good looking, too.
Thanks, Eric! I think so, too.
Stunning picture, Gary! You had no frost over there during the winter or something? :)
Thanks Meat! We had several freezes this winter...I was very surprised to find this.

I only had time to check the baccatums before the storms came today--Guampinha was the only one of them that sprouted. When the rain stops I'll check the other varieties.....

Thanks gs! Guampinha de Veado is a semi-wild C. baccatum from Brazil. Heat level is about the same as Thai Chile, but the flavor profile is way different--the characteristic fruitiness common to many of the smaller C. baccatum varieties. Beth at Peppermania has seeds. I've got some, too, but their viability is questionable

Thanks, Greg! It is a pretty plant, and fun to grow...I hope all 6 of them come back.

Our climate has been real nice this year--I only wish I had some transplant-sized plants to take advantage of it!

I'm excited about growing both types of Congo chiles, too. Both are growing really well.

Gary, so far, so good with your GDV seed I extracted from your harvest. I planted four, but three were victims of my dang ol' dog. One in a pot. All signs point to baccatum in leaf shape/growth. We'll see what cool fruit it makes!

That last photo is awesome,Gary! Looks like the jungle : )

So happy that your de Veado made it through the winter. I did finally get some seeds to germinate out of the pods you sent me. I may try to overwinter one after this season. Looking good sir!!!

Nice! Sorry about the dog damage...

Thanks PG!

Glad to see you've got some of those babies going, Dan! By the way, your Aji Cristal are popping up nicely, looks like I may get 100% germination. Also, the sprouts seem to have relatively thick stalks.

Gary, did I send you Aji Cristal or the Aji Blanco Cristal? Either way, both are great varieties!
I believe you may have sent me both, Dan. I'm about 90% certain I seeded only the Aji Cristal, but I will check the seed packets when I get home, just to be sure...
Thanks for the update G. Let's hear it for global warming. :halo:
Hah! Yeah, dude...I'm not complaining about it. Now if I could just get the C. chinense plants to do the perennial thing, I'd be set...

Found one more variety that is sprouting new growth from last year's stump, this time a C. chinense, so cool—Jamaican Scotch Bonnet. This is the only one of 12 JSB plants that I could find a sprout on. Hopefully the rest will follow:

That's too cool - and the others earlier in your log, too. That's what you call naturalized!

Well I be damned, thats great news. Guess I tossed my trunks away too quickly :banghead: Would love too have some seeds of the Jamaican Scotch Bonnet if it ever gets pods on it. Then I can test the overwintering skills over here
