YAMracer754 work in progress GLOG

Ok.... so I have been meaning to start this for quite some time but finally got things to a point where I feel I can have my grasp on most things pepper and have brought my peppers up, buying things as I go as funds dictate and the chiliboys+girls keep growing up. Not ideal approach, I know, but gotta start somewhere! If I were $$loaded it would be a little easier but $ doesn't replace research and knowledge!

I'm growing indoors until I can take them outside and will grow some in large containers, a few airpots, and the rest in raised beds. Probably flower a few inside to use my new Folux light (courtesy of PexPeppers!) Am thinking of switching to a more coco based medium as the peat seems to not allow so much airflow as I would like but open to suggestions. I'm currently in promix bx blended with fox farms Ocean forest, and upon up potting have added lots of perlite as in the beginning I was getting too much compaction and I was also having the overwatering problem(which I have now corrected).

I started some on 2/7 and some on 2/27 (from Seed) and here's where I am now and here's where I was before. I have upgraded light to 130w folux from a crappy Amazon ufo led {30w actual draw-was good for seedlings and about it}.

I really Need to know which Soil-Hydro frets to buy-bang for buck I'm looking for 1 or 2 at most products to 'K.I.S.S.' approach. So between some of these do you have any knowledge/experience: Masterblend, GH Maxigrow+maxibloom, CNS17, or any of the dynagro products? Or maybe something I haven't heard of? Currently have GrowBig fox farms for supplemental but not a very well balanced profile for growing peppers from what I gather (6-4-4), looking to cover P-K, calcium, and nominal amount of N. I have Epsom salt already if I detect Mg deficiency.

The first pics are from March 2, then March 9-12 transplanting, (notice the algae and growth problems) and here is where I'm at now. Almost thinking it's time to uppot again-they're in 3.5" and 4" nursery containers respectively, and have more seedlings growing in cell trays from Seed from Edmick.

What I'm growing: Hab red Caribbean, Hab chocolate, 1 tepin made it from Seed, bhut jolokia, 3 yellow Devils, a couple Habanero lemons still in tray, some different tomatoes, reapers, jalapeño temprana(early girl jpens), birds eye, different bell/sweet peppers. Few others failed to germinate so I won't list them, and I'm germing aleppos, bad brains, aji citizens, and aji mango. Looking forward to suggestions/questions/comments from all you fellow chileheads!

Again,my friend, we do the same thing. I also have two porches. The back porch gets morning sun from sun up until 12-1pm. So I'll leave them out there according to my hourly hardening process then move them to the shade on the front porch. Then the sun moves there, then they go back to the shade in the back. Lol. Crazy the similarities.
Samezees hahaha! Hope this isn't some weird twilight zone episode! Let me guess yours face N and S too!? Lol! Porches rock for this plant game! Don't know what I'd do without (well I'd make do, but I sure do like em) and it makes the cars driving by almost have auto accidents staring at my 70+ porch queens! Kitties love it!

Actually my front faces west and the back faces east. So the back gets all morning sun. Then the front gets filtered sun through the trees.

Your plants are getting crazy big!!! Nice job!

Thank you very much, still perfecting my alchemist science sauce method of growing with this nute system, among other things, and yeah I hear ya about the east facing as I use my South porch but use the east side of it in the morn til 1230-1 to get that cool, full spectrum, morning blue light that the plants love oh so much! Then back to the north porch after 230-3.

I see you're doing really well!

Those babies are about ready for prime time? I didn't even have to harden off this spring; it was so cloudy I just set them outside and they went on their merry way. In years past I had full sun during the harden period and used shade cloth.

keep it green buddy!

How do you keep the kitkats out of the catnip?  I planted some out for the strays and they went so nuts over it, they couldn't keep from rolling around all over it....to the point they killed it!  :)

Well, these kits are so busy taking down actual prey for fun they haven't really got the full essence.. Plus none have been introduced it yet in their lives so when it starts flowering they will get the full throttle 'high potency' experience ;)

coir chips look like they will give you good air in your mix.
Yes I am digging the mix I made up tonight it's dark outside and I'm letting it cook for a Lil bit just to get the precharge nutes and rinse kind of leveled out.. All looks good on the ec meter, no salt and nothing but root stimulation and porosity - really excited to see what they do I'm this media mix I got together today. I will shoot some pictures and post them tomorrow so you can see what I see, and feel what my hands feel..its straight plant heaven!!! Fiber and husk chips literally a game changer with the fine coir pith..

You have really come a long way from the beginning hard times.
Thanks man, it's trial, error, and passion/persistence the most with it! And honestly I feel so much more confident about growing and plant physiology than I ever have which is cool because now I'm growing all kinds of plants I never thought I'd get a chance to grow like giant squash, watermelon, etc and it's all been from the pepper game and this drive

Devv, I could have used some shade cloth, would have saved some suburns on a couple of plants but as of now the rough stuff is over-theyre solid in full sun save for a short break from that full throttle afternoon sun for 30 mins or so but yes, they're rocking n rollin now and are ready to kick some butt!! Some clouds woulda helped but I had a a couple days like that. Everyday is a new day to check em out at the end of the day after busting my you know what all day moving and fertigating them all day!

That’s cool. Was it hard to pollinate by hand?

Easy as pie. Used a qtip with a drop of water on it and went through 2 flowers that were open and 3-4 days tops you'll see the flower shrivel instead of drop and at the same time the budstem (don't know the proper term) holding the flower will enlarge indicating that it is gonna become a PEPPER! :) cool stuff

So.... Update! I got my landlord to use his bobcat with tooth bucket and finally scratch me out a spot in this slabrock ridden ground to put some plants in the ground as I already have a container castle and still have tons of plants that need in the ground, esp tomatoes!

What would be some basic amendments that will really boost production and base nutrition/overall health (keep in mind I can still and will fertilize with organic or chems) to make this soil better or should I just throw some compost and rake it in and run it? It's clay based but has a lot of composted roots and isn't straight clay like I've worked in before. Perhaps you would call it "clay loam" as there is bits of sand and when it's churned up its loose. It's about 15ft long and 5ft wide

Get a couple 1.5cu ft bags of soil amendment and some composted steer manure or similar.

Mix it in 4-6 inches deep and plant away.

Plants look great and robust, nice work.
