Yelanfam Farms 2019 GLOG

This year I decided I wanted to bulk up my garden and turn it into a hopefully marketable garden. I've bought a rack and lights, seed trays, seed cells, dirt, seeds, weed barrier, shade cloth, and probably more stuff I'm forgetting.

I've probably been given or traded for around half of my pepper seeds. One great person on reddit sent me a huge pack or seeds and I am forever thankful for. A few others on reddit sent me a couple as well. I offered them hot sauce that I made and is finally ready to ship this week. I got here on THP a little late this year, but all ready I have made a few trades with some great people.

I have bought from White Hot Peppers, Lawrence Family Farms, Burpee, Baker Creek, Sow True Seeds, MIGardener I'm sure I'm forgetting some other places.

My plan is to do rows of 25 feet, and have 4, 25 x 25 foot blocks. Most of that peppers, the rest tomatoes cucumbers and beans. I'll also have a bigger section for corn and melons including the Bradford Family Watermelon that I'm super excited about.

I started propagating on January 21, 2019.
My first seedlings appeared on  January 26, 2019.
I up potted the first batch on February 6, 2019.

But on to the peppers, this is my current list of what I have.

Here is a pic of how I start them. I do multiple seeds in an 18 cell tray. It makes it easier to manage at first until I can get out into the greenhouse that I still have to build.

You can see how I use wooden popsicle sticks to hold my labels. I've since changed to includ how many seeds are in the cell as well as tray number on the label.

The Cherry Bombs were the first to pop up.

The Yellow Moruga Scorpion has a Tri Cotyledon, I actlly had about 4 of this from this pack of seeds.

So far I have about a third of them up potted to 36 cell trays.

Still got a long way to go. I'll be propagating my tomatoes tomorrow. Hoping for a great summer garden this year!

***Bonus here is some pics of the early seed test I did. These were propagated on December 27, 2018.

Just a small update, today i bought half of my irrigation stuff, will get the rest in a few weeks along with weed barrier and shade cloth. Still have to figure out a way to inject liquid fertilizer into the system and also determine how much water is actually being put down. I plan to do irrigation in zones, example one zone is tomatoes, another is pepper, another is melons, etc. That what I can water and feed as they need.

As far as how much water, if you have a good handle on your GPM on dripline or emitters, just a matter of watching the clock.

I actually was able to get the garden plowed that same day it snowed, after the snow it got up to around 65 degrees.

I seeded some squash, melons, and cucs the other days, cucs all ready poped up.

Also made my first sale of tomato and pepper plants to two people on facebook.

I potted them up into some leftover pots from last year, I told the people they won't be ready for another week. Figured I'd let them grow some more while getting used to being out side.

Also planted some muscadines, and blue berries this weekend. And would you just look at this layer of topsoil they went into.

You can even see a worm in there. This was where an old barn used to be, I plan on putting berries, and grapes here. I will probably go into the ground in about 2 weeks.

Alright, the season has started in earnest, Matthew!

Let the sales begin

Good luck getting those hardened off and the growing
under way!

Best way to run drip tape A or B, or your C if explained.

Figure A: 2 lines for each sub row of plants.
Figure B: 1 line for each main row of plants.

Also would that spacing be fine or could I go closer, or need to spread them out some more?

It's getting close, I couldn't wait and decided to let these Jimmy Nardellos and Shishitos flower. Only about 2 more month until it's ready.

Check out all these flowers.

The final bits of the puzzle will be in later this week, and next weekend we will hit the dirt as long as the weather works with me.

The cucumbers, melons, cantaloupes, squash are all growing very well, these were seeded on April 3rd, 2019.

Finally have a little shishtio, there are actually a few on there now.

One of the ones I'll take extra care of, the Khang Starr Lemon Starburst.

Hoping the weather holds out and I can get planted within the next 2 weeks.

I have some uncommon melons that I can't wait to try.

Bradford Family
Yamato Cream
Beni Kodama
Art Combs Ancient

I've never grown a watermelon successfully in my life, but that will change this year. With drip irrigation, and the varieties I think I will be able to manage it. Also the Bradford melons will sell for $20-$25 each around here, well at least I'm hoping.

Did my first big sell today. Sold right around 80 plants all to one person. He was a chili head as well. We sat around and talked peppers for a good 15-20 mins, talking about past grows and showing pictures of our plants. I've watched these little plants grow from just a dream to now allowing someone else to take them over. They sure do grow up fast these days. Still have over a hundred more extras, hopefully I'll sell them and not have to plant them, but if I do oh well.

I wasn't expecting any one person to want that many. It definitely helped to get a jump start on paying for all of the stuff that I've bought so far this year. Still a long way to go, but every bit helps.
Saw a pepper plants for sale post on facebook. Thought it was you. Great sale. Hopefully you will get more of these.
