off-topic You know what really grinds my gears?!?

A huge Black Friday sale on German surplus G3 spare gun parts (Needed some spring, rollers, locking piece, etc).. freaken GERMAN made, made for the GERMAN military.

As sites like HKparts send this stuff without problem.... I figure it shouldn't be a problem.

So I order for $190 (which saves me atleast 650 over here). Their Site states that they DO shipped certain parts overseas and if ITAR prevents them from doing so it's mentioned when trying to add the item to your basket.

So everything works out fine, I had to drop a trigger due to ITAR.. that left me with $20 on small spares (still saved me 120) well.. Too bad. The rest of the order went through without a fuss...

At 3:40 at night (keep in mind the 9 hour difference) I get an unclear and unexpected call from a guy that was on the hotline from dixie land (no pun intended, but imagine how hard it is to Follow if English is not your native tongue). Heya mister.. I'ma fraid I can't send you no nuttin' due to FEDERAL laaaw. So ' ma fraid I gotta void y'order Sir!.

As I'm working for a US company that's on NASDAQ, my Phone is on at all Times (Thanksgiving closedown, end of Q4, we work with validated/controlled freezers etc..) So I wasn't to pleased with the call. So I tell him about the time difference, and he didn't realise.. so I told him to void the order and get back to sleep..

THAN half an hour to 45min later dixie #2 calls me.. Sorry to bother you Sir! I'ma fraid ma buddy 'nd i made a lil' m'stake. So I'm gonna reenter your'der with a crap load of free cleaning samplers as reimbursement for the hassle. How you like de sound of dat?

At that point I was quite cranky, I shit you not. So I told him to go Ahead and reenter and i'd pay in the morning via the order confirmation. No problem Sir, Thank you for yo business and y'all have a good sleep now..

So I wake up.. Get a coffee.. check the news.. check my e-mail.........

"After reviewing your order we found multiple items that are in violation with ITAR law, therefore we are forced to cancel your order. We're sorry for the inconvenience".

Now THAT really grinded my gears..

Here's a gear-grinder: When pulling a length of tape from a dispenser, and it ends up sticking to itself. Trying to undo it is nigh-impossible, forcing you to use even more tape.

What really grinded my gears was all the Dale bashing. Yea I'm sure it was nearly all true, but damn. For a while there it was really nuts up in here.

I know, I know, but I just got tired of reading about it all.

You know what really grinds my gears? How damn fast this four day weekend is going.

Especially with duct tape or Gorilla tape.

Haha definitely recognise that one.. in the Bundeswehr we had duct tape like tape (Panzerband) which was olive drab coloured and a lot wider.. You could repair a Leopard 2a6 with that stuff.. BUT if it touched ANYTHING but what you wanted to tape, it was stuck.. Needless to say it was very good tape with a lot of adhesive power (waterproof adhesive..). It could pull paint of armored vehicles, hair of limbs, and if you managed to pull it of your G36 it would forever be sticky as hell.. And it would stink when it was hot (i.e. on rifles, Sunny weather etc).

As well as clear packing tape in a poorly designed dispensor. Always so hard to get it to on the shearing teeth with those things...

Side Note to Pfeffer....just checked back on the Jell-O thread.  No gears to grind there~

(feel free to contact the mods to delete this post because No Gears Were Ground)

So after one re-wine, I do have a gear to grind!

There's a BuyLocal marketing thing in the valley promoting locally made products.  Apparently they arranged for tastings at every little local store from mid-November through New Years.  The campaign is run by a non-profit organization.  I get a call on Tuesday from the organization pushing for local producers to be at a grocery store for sampling of local products.  Sheesh, like I don't have enough to do!  But I'm feeling guilty because I won't be doing any of the other smaller stores...So I rally up, make some gift baskets, figure out what to sample, take a shower, shave the legs and even put on MAKE-UP!  All gussied up..............

and no one else showed up!  No Other Local Producers!

Frickin' freezing temps, like I didn't have better things to do.............guess this lets me know how important the BuyLocal/MethowMade campaign is.....

And the best part is------I served 7 samples. Yes that's SEVEN.  and 2 of those samples were to store employees.

OK- that took up one glass, time to re-wine, make dinner, and move on~

Actually, maybe that's just wining and not necessarily grinding..............

Perfect timing.

People who can't keep their hands off other peoples' property really grind my gears. Some degenerate turd stole my best iron rake earlier this week. Then, yesterday, I go outside and find that the landscape crew hired by the adjacent apartment building are just finishing up. And what were they working on? The 40" areca palms I have as a privacy buffer. They butchered them. In some cases, they cut stuff that's three feet inside my fence, which is itself two feet inside my property line. A lot of it isn't cut cleanly, but ripped. Now I'm left with several days' work removing the stumps (yeah, they cut them off at the height of the fence), my privacy is GONE, and my property is no longer secure; anyone that wants to just hop the fence and come on in can do so.

And it's not the first time this has happened, although it's the worst.

This time, Wicked Mike is going to war. I called the cops and filed a police report. I took lots of pictures. I'm going to sue the pants off both the landscaper and the condo board. The parking spaces they have on the property line are against the law, as it used to be a fire lane. Guess who's going to report them?

But yeah. People taking liberties with my stuff, that really grinds my gears.

Sometimes I feel like my dad's a little toddler in this very regard. He goes "What's that?" and immediately picks it up to inspect it a matter of a couple inches from his face. He seems to get confused and thinks his eyes are in his hands and not his head. And if he doesn't get an answer that's to his satisfaction (usually that means explaining it to him like he's a child) that runs the risk of him yelling at you for him perceiving that you were talking to him like an idiot.
