Wonder Where That Pepper Joe Went?

Pepper Joe stopped by here posted for a week or less and gone like the wind. Where did he go? Just checking out what's hot and not in pepper kingdom? :)

Chris

I just found a catalog of his from 2007 while cleaning up my old desk. Wonder if he got real pictures instead of hand drawn yet.

Nope, not yet. I ordered seeds from him in October and he sent me his 2010 catalogue.

The only pepper that wasn't hand drawn was his Peter Pepper and it's a photo...

...and there it is, pointing right at you...like you're staring down the barrel of a gun.

Chris

he may have realized he had come to a place that knew as much/more than he knew about peppers...

Speaking of shocked. I was pretty shocked when his giant bhuts we grew turned out to be bhuts and not orange habs.

Am I right to assume that his reputation is less than outstanding?
I held off ordering from him because it seemed he was struggling a bit when describing some of his seed products. Certainly not top notch, I feel more comfortable conducting business here.

By the way, I received some seeds from "pepperlover" that has already germinated after only two days.
I think that AJ is right!!

lol. It is pretty bad when you are shocked that you got what you ordered.

 the scotch bonnets yellows turned out to be peach habs and the pumpkin hab and goldenhabs turned out to be orange habs from what i remember. The funny thing is i dont even think he sells peach habs. I certainly was not laughing then!

last year from seedrack I got "bhut jolokia" that ended up being Caribbean red habs, but I can't complain because they have paid for themselves then some, but what really matters is that you get what you order, plain and simple.

Sometimes we just get lucky and can make lemonade from life's lemons

Hi all,

First post, but since I am new to the growing from seeds side of things, and most of those seeds are from Pepper Joe, I was wondering just how inaccurate (from personal experience) his sales are?

Am I likely to get one or two breeds that are incorrect, or only one or two that ARE correct?

A couple years ago I grew a tabasco and a couple of charleston hots from Pepper Joe. Those plants looked like hell. Very pale and shrivelled foliage with mediocre fruit set. A stark contrast to the 40 other lush and bountiful pepper plants from other suppliers. Then I tried some of his orange glow tomatoes and all of them got blossom end rot. Again, no problem with other tomatoes in the yard. This guy might be shipping unstable crosses or something like that. I found a pack of his pumpkin hab and have sprouted a couple for the 2011 season. If these don't turn out I'm not wasting my time with Joe's stuff anymore.

Justaguy - Thanks for the welcome.

Diabolus - Thanks for the info. Guess I won't really know until the end of the year if I paid a lot of money for good seeds or rubbish.

Might be worth seeing if I can get some good seed connections to borrow/steal/trade with before I spend more money on commercial seeds.

Hi Pauly7,

I see that you're located in Australia.

Have you tried Neil at The Hippy Seed Company.

He's located in Aus' as well.

I've ordered a few times from him.

He gives good prompt service and his seeds have a good reputation for being what you paid your hard earned money for.

Hippy is on the list for future purchases, once I get over the fact I may have wasted $70 on seeds.
