I am planting via 2 methods, coffee filter and direct sow. I want to eventually plant out 1 of each variety so I sowed 3 seeds. I soaked my seeds last night in water and planted 1 in a tray of Hoffman’s Seed Starter (thanks Ronnie),
fe6e7491.jpg

and the other two I stuck in coffee filters and plastic bags. So EVERYONE is aware, this method is not a quick one. Consider yourself warned.

When I finished planting/bagging everything, I stuck it in my tent which maintains about 81-84 and we shall keep our fingers crossed.

Now it is time to PWN some 12 year olds in MW3. Peace!

I have to get my hands on some of the Billy Bikers next season. couldn't find any this season But from what I'm seeing in your garden they look like some nice Popper size Jalapenos.

Yea, they seem like they are doing well. I can't wait to see the full sized red pods start poppin out.

So if you all didn't hear about the torrential hell storm straight out of the movies, we got hit pretty hard...Tropical Storm Beryl came in and took a big giant S*&t all over us, ALL DAY LONG! I was just sitting at work, kicking myself for not bringing in all the potted plants, and thinking to myself "is my impatience a trend???" So of course, when I got home I closed my eyes when I let the dogs out and SLOWLY opened them. It wasn't as bad as I thought, but the real test is going to be how they react to 12 hours or so of rain. The two saving grace is one, I decided to tie up most everything to the stakes because of the wind we have been getting, and two, we are supposed to get a week and change of warm sunny days. So, hopefully I won't have to go and execute Ma Nature. She IS PUSHING IT THOUGH.....

Everything looks really happy in your garden. Keep it up my friend!

Seth! I am glad you stopped by! I just ran through your update on my phone and am about to head back over to see those sa-weet pix in full screen mode! I will tell you this, Guru is the man. My plants are LOVING the tea, EVEN after a Tropical Storm! I am happy to see your babies turning around. Happy Growing from here on out!

Like I said above, I am really lovin the compost tea. I had a long day and didn't get home till after dark and quickly ran out to the garden (even though I was supposed to be putting the baby asleep) and checked out the damage. I gotta tell you, they seem to have fared the storm pretty well. It was dark, and I was stuffed with sushi and a Sonic Malt, but I swear it looked like the leaves have grown on some of the plants by at least 25%. I am chompin at the bits to get out there in the sun tomorrow after work and take a few photos and see how they have done. Everything looks wet, but the chance of precipitation for the next few days is 20% or lower, and then it supposed to be sunny and warm for a while. So there is a glimmer of perfect weather on the horizon.

On another note, most of yall know I am in the military (got lost on the way to college...). Well, I just changed units to take a spot on a team deploying to Afcrapistan. In the unit I am coming from there is a tradition to give the people leaving a Roman Sword that represents the warrior spirit. In addition to that, my specific team has a tradition of putting a Latin phrase that kind of represents each Marine. (The Black Boxes are just personal stuff, so pardon those...)

That is so awesome Matt . But we are gonna miss your ass so it sucks at the same time .The nick name is perfect . You will represent the chilii nation better than anyone else in Afcrapistan.

Now lets see some more pepper pics!

Man, that's great stuff. Going to be tough being away from the family I'm sure. I think I read it here earlier, but I forget, are you going to be here through the rest of the season? You know, this outdoor stuff really feeds the soul. Growing from seed, growing your own food, all that. It's really quite a centering experience and a great escape from all the screen time in our lives. You need a fire pit out there Matt. Someplace you can gather with your plants and thoughts at night with the family. You might be too busy this year with the new addition though. Hope she is sleeping well for you!

The sword is awesome! Yeah, we'll all miss you when you're over there. Stay safe, you'll be in my prayers. When do you head out?

I'll be looking forward to those pepper pics with a 25% increase in leaf size  :)

Seth - I've found gardening to be a centering experience myself. I've been listening to some permaculture podcasts and they have all sorts of interesting things to say about the importance of producing our own food or buying food in micro economies and in relationships with others we know. In fact, I think this forum is an interesting social experiment in that sense, interesting how the community forms and is overall a very positive place. Growing is good for us and seems to help us in a community sense. Just stuff I've been thinking about lately so it was interesting you brought it up.

Don't forget your pods! Has anyone heard of anyone growing peppers while on deployment?? That would be kinda cool. I know its a stressful place over there, but maybe you could find a corner:)
Going to miss your comedy, and updates!
Keep your eyes open! Stay safe, and God bless!

Kyle

And WTH,they couldn't find a Golden Eagle :P

Hi Matt, Its looking great ... Well of course you are on top of the research. :woohoo: Your morale officer would probably work out something to get your pods into the State Fair ! I'm thinkin' a pepper cam would rock ! Dan

Yea it always sucks being away, but after 5 times, it gets a bit easier. But this time having a young son will make it a bit harder. Anyways, I look forward to fully embracing the grow what you eat mentality when I get back from this little trip. I also have fun plans for the little garden "Oasis!". And as an added bennie, Cole is sleepin through the night now! Gotta love it.

I really wanted to get out there and take some pics, but we had some crazy wind today. I am hopin that it clears up tomorrow and I can get out there and actually take a photo that isn't blurry!

It gets "easier" but it never gets easy...boarding the plane and looking back at your family knowing you won't see them again for a year sucks no matter how many times you have done it, but it has to be done brother. Hopefully yours it a short one! I know it'll be a while before you chop out, but once you do keep your head down.

For now though, post some damn pepper pics!

Matt-
Damn if you don't set a high bar for the most information packed into a single grow log(which I have been hard pressed to keep up with lately), definitely gotta thank you for that.Nice poker you got there, gotta love the latin- looks like they nailed you for sure!I'd tell you to "Keep your powder dry"...but thats not an issue overthere obviously, so I'll just tell you to"Watch your ass" overthere brother. If you PM your new adress once you get it, a few of us might be able to provide you with some heat from afar...unless you just love MRE's with tiny Tabasco's ;)!

I know I promised some photos, but the wife has a bunch of work to do so I am on Baby Duty...I will get out there tomorrow when it is time for yard work and make sure to take plenty of pics and maybe even an update, if the change warrants it. BUT, I did manage to snap a few before the wife drug me inside by my ear, and it doesn't really matter because one of them is perhaps the most exciting photo of the season.....dun dun dun......

First, because I know I have a bunch of sick individuals following this thread....
3e7398eb.jpg

Also, I won a contest from SupremeGrowers.com and they sent out 8 Myco Blasts and 8 Soil Blasts. I used one pkg I got from Chris (alphahydro) in my compost tea because the mycoblast is water soluble and the tea turned out great. Works amazing on the roots (the latest bout with the weather has moved some soil around and the root systems are pretty robust).
eed36743.jpg

Are there any growers following this that still have another pot up to do??

And last but not least....
36b47967.jpg

BAM! That just happened. And just because I am a nice guy...whoever can guess the type gets the first care pkg of the summer. Keep in mind this is only my first super pod and the pkg will likely go out in July, if I don't kill everything first... You get one guess and it needs to be exact type (i.e. yellow bell, purple bhut, etc.).

Happy Guessing!
