smoking Beer Can Chicken

Not quite sure how this became a thread, but I'll roll with it. I guess I will buy a chicken and make this this weekend to show you.

No it was split off of the jerk chicken topic as this took a different course.

So have at it. Beer Can Chicken!

Eggs poached in beer does not sound too bad actually! Eggs Beeraddict™! Wait. That's awesome. Please do it but I am keeping the name!

this is a crappy pic (of the apparatus) but this is by far the best way to do beer can chicken. It probably won't work cuz i suck at posting non-potobucket pics.

The holder is all welded stainless so you don't need to use an actual beer can. the base serves a blocker for flare ups. best of all i got it free with a case of beer a few years ago.

Regarding drying out, I cook mine over indirect heat with the breast facing the the side of my grill that is providing the heat. I tie up the wings and drums, keeping them opposite the breast side. the tips of the wings still burn but there isnt any meat there anyway.

There is something to be said for using a real beer can, my no likey foo foo kitchen store rigs. :) Notice the turkey breast is in a Foster can, 9lb breast.

I'm just not personally a fan of eating burning paint. I'd rather poison myself with 3-8 beers while its cooking, but to each their own. Also I prefer bottled beer, so I have no cans laying around.

Funny story about those Guinness cans, I had a buddy use one for beer can chicken but forget to take the floating plastic wicket out. that was some nasty ass chicken!

I agree, one must know what they are doing to really use a can. Notice my can is not burnt and the chicken is done. :) I am also a bottle guy however there are some awesome craft beers now that are can only.

I am sure if someone was to do a study it would show that if you made and ate twelve beer can chickens a week, it may cause cancer, but I only make it once or twice a year so I will take my chances and assume that alcohol and second hand smoke will kill me first. I am glad this subject came up, I have been meaning to make this again for a while. Now I have a reason.

Just noticed that, what's your secret? Those cans look mint! Mine tuned out burt and gross until I switched to my "foo foo" rig lol.

Damn souf, you definitely posted the one with the crispiest skin, and that does keep it juicy, maybe there is something to this beer can thing.
