    Another Pepper ID Question

Before doing any research on seed scams via amazon i made a impulse buy on some Red Ghost seeds. They were very slow to germinate and did little to nothing for the first several months. I chalked it up to a learning experience.   Recently to my surprise some pods finally set and they are not the...

    breeding Jalapeno Golden Cayenne cross??

Update on the Mystery Pepper....   I have refrained from pulling any peppers from this plant in the hopes of getting a full ripe pepper and to see what the color change will be. Its taking a long time for the peppers to ripen up. All other pepper plants have been producing rip pods for weeks...

fermenting My First Stab at Fermented Hot Sauce

I could not wait any longer so I decided to pop open the ferments and make some sauce. Problem…  one of the ferments must have had an air leak. It was looking a bit suspect during the ferment process.     When I removed the lid I was met with this disgusting sight…     This was the strawberry...

raised-bed Using cinder blocks for raised beds question.

Create a border around the beds with pea gravel or mulch to solve the weed trimming issues. It would also look nicer than cinder blocks on grass. Sink some landscape timbers around the outside border edges to contain the gravel or mulch.

fermenting My First Stab at Fermented Hot Sauce

Thanks for the Link Chilli Monsta it explains allot. Its hard to tell in the pic but i think you are right and i have some yeast forming. These are in my kitchen and it might get a little warm in there during the day. I might move these to the basement to a dark and cooler environment. Do you...

fermenting My First Stab at Fermented Hot Sauce

Progress update…   7 days in and here’s how they look     It looks like they are bubbling away. All the solids have moved to the top. Will they settle back down after the ferment has completed? Do I need to give them a shake once and a while?   Close up of the tops   Strawberry raspberry mash...

fermenting My First Stab at Fermented Hot Sauce

"The only thing I see that might be an issue, is that you may not have left enough air space at the top of the jars"   I was worried about that. I filed the jars too full when packing them. I went back once after setup up the air locks and scooped out a heaping table spoon. Should i take more...

fermenting My First Stab at Fermented Hot Sauce

Great news then... I was cautious with this batch. Wanted to get it right the first time.   I plan on running an immersion blender into the quarts when the ferment is done. Then strain it thru a sieve into a pot. I will then bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer for 20 mins or so. If the ph is...

fermenting My First Stab at Fermented Hot Sauce

After looking at my Caribbean reds loading up on the plants and other peppers in the garden I decided to do a trial fermentation run to make sure I get it right. I don’t want to waste a bunch of my peppers on an experiment gone bad. I have been reading all the great info on the site so I gave it...

    breeding Jalapeno Golden Cayenne cross??

Last year I had a Jalapeno and Golden Cayenne plant in containers right next to each other. Both were Bonnie plants purchased from a big box store. Both plants produced well and I decided to save seed from them for this year.   Both batches of seeds had terrible germination rates. I never got...
