flavor Which 5k-25k Scoville peppers do you like the taste of most?

i prefer hatch/new mex peppers.. not too spicy and good flavor. also like cherry hots. makes some good sriracha hot sauce .they're really good for pickling, roasting.. Tabasco is a good pepper, but it's not very meaty. makes a good hot sauce though.

    Heritage Big Jim

I'm happy to share whatever seeds I get from this seasons harvest. i'll probably update the thread later in the season on their progress.   these kind of peppers (new mexico/hatch style) are awesome for roasting/grilling, making rellenos and pickling them.

    Heritage Big Jim

so, it looks like they made a confusing mess with these new improved peppers called Heritage Big jim, Heritage NuMex 6-4, etc.   some seed places are now calling the previous Big Jims, Legacy Big Jim while the new improved variety are just called Big Jim, at least based on a few seed places i've...

seeds Purple on top of seedling leaves

yeah some varieties experience the pigment change more than others with light intensity, happens with tomatoes and many other plants. its a 'defense' mechanism, but his/hers is most likely a bit too close because they appear stressed to me, and a combo of heat stress as well. look at the leaf...

seeds Purple on top of seedling leaves

are they HO T5s? (54w per tube). if they are, i'd keep the lights no less than 7 inches, preferably around 8-10 inches when they are seedlings, then you can bring them to 7-8 inches once they develop a bit but you also have to watch the temps above their canopy. T5s generally run cool, but heat...

seeds Purple on top of seedling leaves

unlikely they would be deficient at that stage. how many hours of light are they getting and what kind of lights are you using? could be too much/intense light.

    Heritage Big Jim

just recently read this: https://www.abqjournal.com/1061463/more-flavorful-chile-developed.html   "...feedback from growers led researchers to redevelop the NuMex 6-4 breed of chile as the NuMex Heritage 6-4, and the New Mexico Big Jim chile as NuMex Big Jim. They have five to six times the...

    Looks like a big problem

at their stage all they really need at first is just mostly nitrogen, once they put on some growth you can give them some nutrients that has more balanced NPK.

USDA Small Lots of Seed Permit

there has to be more underlining reasons why they don't allow it, but pathogens and diseases for sure can be one of those reasons.. however, my grand father frequently went to Puerto Rico every winter and came back in the spring with fruit. they would not allow him to travel with seeds inside...

    Looks like a big problem

your plants look relatively healthy and at the stage their in, the yellowing is primarily culprit of two things.. lack of food or overwatering. based on what i can see, it doesn't look like you're overwatering.. and unless your temps are like excessive (well over 85F) i doubt that's the problem...

    Looks like a big problem

the problem with growing in coco with organic fertilizers is you need to feed a bit higher. a good portion of nitrogen in organic fertilizers is insoluble, which means it's unavailable to the plants and only become available once it breaks down (decomposes) which takes time. organic fertilizers...

    When to Plant Outside

the thing about last frost date is it's an average and that average is over the past 30 years... weather varies significantly from year to year. How significant? two years ago i planted out April 10th, the following year we had several inches of snow on that date! I just watch the weather and...

    vegatative growth issues?

Are you growing other peppers or just this one variety? just wondering if you have other plants to compare it to? peppers are generally slow growers at first. it's not unusual to have a 2 week old plant that only has cotyledons and a 1 pair of tiny leaves.    need more info about the soil...
