    harvesting Harvest

The green ones would be limes. My tree is going insane. The Trinidad Scorpion bush has been picked twice since I posted this photo. That bush just won't quit.

    harvesting Harvest

I haven't been around in a while. I thought I'd post a photo of this week's haul. Starting from the yellow ones and going clockwise, this is a bunch of yellow habaneros, habanero golds, Trinidad Scorpions, and Tobago Seasoning peppers. The orange peppers at right are grocery store habaneros of...

    pickling Pickling Question

Haven't been around in a while. I'm back because I can't figure out what to do with my excess peppers. This thread looks useful. Today I took a bunch of prig ki nus and put them in squeeze bottles with salted vinegar and garlic cloves. I think this will preserve them reasonably well for a...

    hot-sauce 2Hot Rocoto Sauce

I got myself some 2Hot rocoto pepper sauce. I bought the red and yellow varieties. These are pure-pulp sauces. No vinegar. I didn't think much of these. I'd say they're about as hot as Crystal. And they don't seem to have much flavor. Not sweet. Not fruity. I was disappointed, because everyone...

chinense what is the differance between a 7 pod and a trinadad scorpion??

The scorpions I got from Trinihottie are dimpled and the tails don't look like they'll be long. The 7 pots I planted didn't make it.

chinense "Habanero Golds" Ready to Pick

Mine had a flavor like the smell of sulfuric acid. What is commonly called "smoky." And they were so damn hot I didn't know what to do with them.

chinense "Habanero Golds" Ready to Pick

Might as well add a review. I just sliced one for a friend who wanted seeds. Very, very sweet. Not as hot as some habaneros. I also seeded a fatalii, a white habanero, a tobago seasoning pepper, some prig ki nus, and a hot chocolate pepper. The hot chocolate was excellent. Lots of smoky...

chinense "Habanero Golds" Ready to Pick

Last year, I found peppers labeled "habanero gold" at a local market. These were gigantic habaneros. Some were bright yellow, like a banana, and others were bright red. They were super sweet and fruity. Best I've ever had. Very hot, but not too hot to be useful. I have no idea what kind of...

Wow, they look so much like Fataliis.

chinense Tried my New White Habaneros

I'll be happy to throw some in the mail. I don't need the seeds you mentioned, but I am willing to donate the cost of a stamp for the cause. Well, wait. If you have the fat nagas--not the skinny PC-1 peppers everyone claims are nagas--I'd be interested.

    Good Trinidad Cookbook?

She said she'd look around. I found one on Amazon called "Sweet Hands." It's supposed to be great. Here in Miami, we have a lot of island food, but not much from Trinidad. Maybe Trinis don't emigrate much, because they have a lot of industry and a strong economy.

chinense Tried my New White Habaneros

My white habaneros are getting ripe, finally. I notice someone on this thread complained about yellow "white habaneros." Two of mine have turned yellow. Mine came from Tomatogrowers.com.

chinense Tried my New White Habaneros

Reposted from my blog: I grew myself some white habaneros. For whatever reason. Insanity, I guess. And today I tried one. These are tiny habaneros that get about as big as a white seedless grape. The biggest one I have is smaller than that. They are supposed to have a smoky flavor and be...

Can anyone recommend a really good cookbook for Trinidad food?

    Nagas Sprout Fast

more I already accidentally bought the PC-1s, which are long and skinny and mislabeled "naga jolokia." These new ones are supposed to be the fatter chinense-type peppers. I guess I'll find out. Meanwhile, my 7 Pot and Scorpion seeds have arrived, not to mention my Super Datils. I think the...

    Nagas Sprout Fast

I got some naga jolokia seeds off Ebay, and I only planted them a few days ago, and they're already sprouting. Isn't that a little fast? I always read about peppers taking forever to grow.

    I Think I Ate Drano

These were really exceptional peppers. I should buy a couple more and post photos. I doubt the local market has any idea what they really are. The one I sliced into chili tonight was almost 3" long and bright yellow, but the others were round and very red.

    I Think I Ate Drano

Bought produce today. While I was shopping, I saw some beautiful, huge habaneros, so I bought some. I think they were labeled "golden habeneros." They were huge, thick-fleshed, and very shiny and smooth. Some were bright lemon yellow. Others were orange-red. Got them home and cut a piece out to...

I appreciate the reply. I have a lot of political blogger friends but I quit doing that kind of work. It never freezes here. Our proper growing season starts in November.
