    Mystery peppers...always label your pots!

So the mystery peppers have ripened, they turned an orangey red, and are dull as dishwater.  No heat at all.  So likely a bishop's crown.  It definitely was a white ghost, and the third was definitely a regular ghost pepper.  The white ones have a nice fruity flavor alongside an excellent...

    Pepper ID please

Are peppers a normal ingredient in parrot food?    But yeah, that looks like the 'thai' peppers I get at the greenhouse every year.  They produce bunches of peppers, generally at the end of the plant stalk. I'm sure there's actual varieties of them, but they just label them as 'thai', and go...

Is this the average person's knowledge?

We learned all about Mendel and peas and corn and stuff, breeding for attributes, dominant and recessive genes, etc. I graduated 19 years ago though, so who knows what they're teaching them now.

    Hot peppers aren't hot?

That must be the case, they're definitely an annum, only one pod per junction.  What a shame.  I dunno what I'm going to do with these peppers, maybe I'll grind them into paprika or something since there's not any heat to speak of.

    Hot peppers aren't hot?

The last week has been average high of 72, average low of 55. Pumpkins are coming.

    Hot peppers aren't hot?

So I've been picking a boatload of what I grew as 'jamaican mushroom peppers' which look pretty much exactly like the pictures listed by the seller (I think this was from Totally Tomato), and I cut one open to see how they were, and it was nothing.  It had a slightly acidic taste to it, like it...

    vendor whitehotpeppers

Let me know when seeds are available for that.   I just logged in to say how happy I was with my package from whitehotpeppers, first person to ship from the three I ordered that day.  Nice labels on everything, great freebies, packaged nice and secure, with a hand-written thanks card slipped...

vendor Mega Biggups to Texas Hot Peppers

I got my 6x6x6 box today, nice mix of stuff that looks dangerous, and stuff that looks strange, including some purpley yellow things.  And some matte-finish peppers, which is something I haven't seen before.  I've never grown one that wasn't glossy before, so that's a new one.  Fast shipping...

    What is this?

Looks kind of like a Serrano pepper.  Every cayenne I've grown has more of a curve to it.  How long are they?

Fennel - anyone grow this ??

There are two types of fennel, one that bulbs, and one that does not.  You may want to check the variety you're seeding for.    Also hello to a fellow NE Ohio person =P

    dehydrators Dehydrators & Techniques

I've always tried to leave them whole because it seems like I have a lot less cleanup that way.  I don't have a cutting board and knife covered in what is essentially bear repellent, and the pods seem to keep most of the nastiness inside.  I also like being able to do whole pods to give to...

    Kingbo 300W LED grow light

It's nice to see separate modes for vegetative and flowering, most lights are just like 'Ehh, f it, lets throw all the colors of the rainbow in there'.

    It's Powder Time

Yeah, they tend to be geared towards the bigger buyer, if you were buying 1400 plain jars, and 2300 shaker lids, your per unit price would be 36 cents each...but you'd have 900 extra lids. >_>

    dehydrators Dehydrators & Techniques

So what kind of dehydrators are people using to dry their peppers?  I've got a Nesco I've used for years, but I was looking to get a bigger one.  The problem I've seen is it's hard to get a full size pepper into most of these little trays.  On my current one I actually bought a second...

    It's Powder Time

Have you tried SKS?  They make jars and bottles and things, but I don't know if they make shaker jars.  I've bought tins for spices from them before, and bottles for snow cone syrup.

    Pepper IDs

I can't tell you the variety, but I can tell you that I really want to grow those jalapeeeeeeenos.  Would make growing them to smoke into chipotles so much easier.

    Mystery peppers...always label your pots!

I'll take some pictures when they start ripening, and see what they look like then.  Whatever it is, both plants that survived the spring are producing identical peppers, so it doesn't appear to be a sport or one-off thing.  Thanks for looking =)

    Mystery peppers...always label your pots!

So I mixed up all my buckets when I was planting and by the time I realized they weren't in order I didn't know what anything was.  I've identified most of the stuff I'm growing, and I'm fairly certain I know what 3 of the 4 I have here are, but I have one that's just...weird.  I've never grown...

    Hey there!

Greetings from Ohio! I've been growing hot peppers for a number of years, over the last few I started growing them in 5 gallon buckets. I've had excellent results, since I can control the soil quality better than the clay that makes up most of what we've got out here. I found this site while...
