seeds STRENGTH - Seed to Pod - How to Grow a Strong Plant

Interesting thought, but I think nature handles the vast majority of this on it's own. My(rather limited) thoughts on the matter. 1) In the Perfect Environment (85f / 30c Mini Greenhouse) do the 1st Sprouts turn out to be the Strongest Plants? I have with very few exceptions never seen the...

    Still waiting on fatalii ....

That's a fantastic plant. I have to say, one of my favorite ways to eat a fatalii is sliced thin in spaghetti sauce. :D

    Pepper ID question

Hi Origami, Virginia, USA here. I'd love some, but unfortunately I'm all out of grow space for the year. :( So no one out there knows that this is?

    Pepper ID question

I'm growing what was sold to me as a bird's eye chili, from a reputable grower in my area(avoiding names here); and I'm confused because the pods that are developing on it look nothing at all like what I expected to. Now, I'm aware that mother nature can do some very interesting things to fruits...

First Pepper of the 2008 Season...

I think this is an interesting statement on a lot of levels. One thing that I'll say is that the sciences(Botany, horticulture, biology, etc...) understand plants far better than animals. Mostly because they are somewhat simpler, they grow more slowly, are far more tolerant to experimentation...

    I NEED HELP!!

Nothing wrong with talking/singing/playing music to them... But as Rainbowberry said, expecting them to dance along may be a bit far fetched. Though AJ, I'm a bit surprised that you're peppers haven't gained sentience and unionized. :D

    water the selfwatering container difference

That's incredible! Though that 5 gallon bucket allows for larger roots. Are there some instructions on how to build one of those? or is it just plastic sheeting over the top of the bucket?

    really stupid question

Ha! I know that feeling. After years of training myself I've come to the conclusion that the best way to grow chilies(unlike every other plant I've ever grown) is to just ignore them. Check on them occasionally, water them with the rest of the plants, but they're pretty tough, once they're past...

    Labelling Pots

Oh dear... Ring, I normally arrange mine geographically based on my much sunlight they need. It depends on how much space you have and how many plants you grow, but I'll do a couple of rows of Habs, a couple rows of serranos, a couple rows of cayennes etc etc. You can also group them according...

    really stupid question

I normally ignore anything my seedlings do(within reason) for the first 3 weeks or so, until they get their "real" leaves. I've had seedlings do some REALLY strange things that didn't effect the adult plant at all. A bit like an unruly puppy.

    I NEED HELP!!

Well, I was just thinking about that... You could actually pull the trim off where the roof meets the outside wall(on a normal peaked roof) and tap into the support joists on the A frame... then a few lag bolts some 2x4's 1/4 inch plywood and maybe some 4x4's for support... You could probably do...

    I NEED HELP!!

I've been doing this for a few years now and it started with one plant... then two... and I was cool... then the next year 10 on my apartment balcony, which left me standing in a 2x2 foot corner by the middle of the summer. Oh, I know what you're thinking... 10 to 15 plants is nothing, right...

How many can you actually grow?

AJ, take it as a compliment when I say you're crazy; but you're my kinda crazy.

How many can you actually grow?

A.Probably 3 of each different variety(Bhut Jolokia, Chcolate Hab, Orange Hab, Serrano, Cayenne) So, about 15. B.Assuming all my peat pellets germinate(about 2/3rds have already) between 20 and 30 along the railings of my deck and in the side yard. C.As of right now, none, but this may change as...

    lighting Lighting...agh! I swore I wouldn't post this

Hot Cathode Fluorescent Lamp? Or High efficiency Compact spiral Fluorescent? The former I can find virtually nothing on the 'net about except for a definition of sorts. The latter I'm fairly familiar with, there are three main "spectrum's" marketed that I have found: Daylight(Very Blue)...
