    I'm Back! (again)

Hey all, I see a lot of new members and some good old friends still kicking around. I got distracted by marriage and a hectic job but those are both over now :(   I'm finding myself with a lot more free time, hopefully to rediscover myself, so you should see me around here a lot more often.  ...

Cutting big old leaves - are there benefits?

Yep, as said above, only if there is a compelling reason eg - you've gone crazy on nitrogen and there is so much foliage it's blocking light to lower parts and hindering production.

    Mushroom compost??

Shroom compost is quite high in salts, so I would be cautious of using too much in a normal garden, let alone growing in 100% shroom compost.

How many various species of plants in your yard?

Same here, 5 square km, established by retired professional gardner's. 100000000's. The coolest sight by far is the swam of fireflys we get in spring.

    Automation!

Yep, I'm hugely into DIY automation, I remember raving about Phidgets a while back. I'll extend this post when I'm not on a tablet, it's being retarded :P

    I'm back!

After being stuck with work for a while, my inactivity and my use of numbers for everything, the admin mistook my account for a fake. All fixed up now and no longer on contract and have gone permanent so I'll be around a lot more again.

    Growing olives

HA, so is peyote in QLD, good luck with that. I'm fairly sure we can keep up with them, even if we were snails! DPI are nuts, WAY too over conservative.

    Phidgets

I was looking for an Ethernet module for my PLC only to be shocked by the amazing price they wanted. During my browsing I stumbled across an awesome platform for controlling and automating just about anything. http://www.phidgets.com/index.php I'll start moving towards Phidgets once the...

Hot peppers and cats. Hot peppers as cheap cat toys: Has anyone tried it?

Both our cats love the sh*t out of chilli. I have them sitting in a bowl in the kitchen (the chillies that is :P ) and they'll regularly walk on the bench, smack them on the floor, play with and chew on them. They don't seem to react to the heat at all - no matter what stupidly hot chilli it is...

    i could use some guidance

You're not giving them 24 hour light are you? After about 2-3 months of 24 hour light, they will start to die. Easy to see if they're root bound, just pop them out of the pot and check. If you're worried about them getting too tall, just top them, then they'll just get bushier. If you want them...

overwintering Winter-Summer in OZ "Comparison" / Aussie Blabberers

I can show you a million ways to get around it ;). If it's just a linux "firewall", it's easy as piss. If they have something more enterprise grade it just a little harder but not impossible. Sound like just asking the admin to allow it is easier in your case tho :P

overwintering Winter-Summer in OZ "Comparison" / Aussie Blabberers

At last, some f***ing rain! I laid down in the hammock for hours in the rain last night, it was great. I'm sure my withered garden was thinking the same.
