2010 Grow Thread Begins

This is a Dorsett Naga. Caught me by surprise as I thought there was only one pod, the larger one. I love it when that happens.

Finally a picture of my best looking 7 Pod Brain Strain plant. I ended up with three total. This one was part of the original twins I had going but one of them didn't make it. The other two I have are struggling bad after the hail storm and the slugs. I'm still counting on them to produce.

That's it for now, hope you enjoyed the pics.

Your plants are coming along very nicely. I like all the pod shots. My yellow 7 pods look the same, it surprises me at how quickly their pods grow, it's like small one day, huge the next.

Thanks for the nice words everyone.

In all of the years I've been growing peppers I don't think I've ever had pods grow so fast. I am also noticing a lot of flower drop lately. I wonder if it could be caused by too much moisture? So far we have twice the average amount of rainfall for the month with a week still to go. I think I've watered them once this month.

Hey patrick

Got to love that Dorset Naga of yours... I count about 5 fruits and a butload of buds!
Your "struggling" plants look pretty healthy from the pictures you posted.

I found a few flowers opening on the 7 Pod Barrackpore I have growing in the house. I decided to increase the amount of light that is available to the indoor plants and rigged this monster up. I'll add a few more lights in the next couple of days. Any suggestions as to what type of light I should use?

L-R: Fatalii, B.J., Peter Pepper, 7 Pod Yellow, 7 Pod Barrackpore.

Lots of little buds sprouting on all but the Peter Pepper.

I only use the coco fiber for starting the seeds. It doesn't have much food for the plants. I'll switch over to my potting mix when I upgrade these. After they get a couple of true leaves I'll fertilize them with a liquid fertilizer at about 10% strength.

Here are a few updated pics:

Once the seedlings broke ground I put them under florescent lights, very close. I have another seven on the other end of this setup. Got to keep things balanced

Here's a close up of yellow Trinidad Scorpion CARDI.

This is a bit of cheating I did this winter. I tried to over winter a 7 Pod Brain Strain but the freaking aphids decided to try and eat it. I ended up taking several cuttings from it and sticking them in water. This one did have a few tiny pods beginning to develop and I left a few on for fun. Danged if they aren't still there and I swear they're getting bigger! Anyway I wanted to show off the root development. This gal is headed for some potting soil very soon.

Closer shot.

WDid you add something on the tip of the branch, or did you just putt it in water??? Nice!!!

Time for a short update. I've got 39 seedlings so far. I've been starting more seeds every couple of days. All pretty much the same as my original list.

I had to expand my pvc frame to hold more lights too.

Got room for a few more lights when the time comes. I'll also be adding some reflective material in the next day or two.

I love doing this stuff.
Hi patrick, where did you buy does lights at???

Sorry for taking so long to reply marito001.

I used some of the rooting hormone on the cutting. The lights all came from Walmart and were each under $10.

Pepper porn time! First up, the 7's.

The best 7 Brain Strain is starting to show buds--lots and lots of buds.

These are regular ol' 7 Pods, seeds from the Hippy.

Couple shots of the Hippy's yellow 7 Pod. This particular plant is usually the first one I check on in the mornings. I'm positive it's going to produce those great big yellow pods that the Hippy has shown. Huge peppers.

This is one of the skinny ones.

And finally the last 7 Pod pic of the day is a Jonah:

Dang Patrick, I can only hope that my plants end up only half as good as yours. Everything looks great and well cared for. Keep up the good work and I hope those plants produce a bumper crop for ya! Keep the pics coming!
