2013 Bhut Jolokia from Meghalaya, India Grow Logs

Nice looking plants and progression man. That's a lot of proto heat you have goin if those are all ghosts. I can't wait to start growing some true super hots next year.

Does anybody here have any suggestions on how to maximize the number of plants I am growing under a 450Watt HPS Grow light? I currently have 18 3 gallon grow bags at 7x7 inches each, and only 18 bags, but I think I can effectively get 25 bags, and 30 bags with 6 getting limited but sufficient light. The following is the current setup:

My primary concerns are as follows:
hand pollinating will become impossible with this many plants growing this close together.
Hand watering will become impossible this close together.

Possible solutions include automated drip irrigation (I am looking to economize this system)? Any inexpensive options?

Last December I had primarily 2 plants that used almost the entire grow area, and I don't know how that will work with 25 to 30 plants. Experienced growers please share your advice.

Thanks

love2grow's Ghost Peppers 7/7/2013
Added 4 more plants to grow bags today for indoor total of 22. 30 would of been possible, but now that the most mature plants are almost 2 feet tall the smaller ones would be overgrown. 25 plants in grow bags is the maximum in current situation. Most mature plants contain blooms, and all the plan have buds. Gave away one hardened outdoor plant in grow bag to a friend this morning.

You are going to have or simply have minimised the plants genetic potential by having that many plants in such a limited space ... If 2 grew in that same space and you currently have 22 you may run into some trouble with pests and fungal issues due to the cramped conditions limiting air flow. My advice cull it back to a managible number

The plants look strong and healthy so far, but your space is too small for 22full grown plants.

+1 on this. Your lighting and space is realistically large enough for 4 or so.

Latest Photos from 7/11/2013. Plants are still thriving:)

Trippa & Jeff,

Undoubtably, you may be right, but only time will tell. The plants have absolutely no mold issues, and pests are 100% under control with lady bugs. They currently are still get alot of wind action from a single small fan. The fan also keeps the lady bugs on the plants, and when they do fly they stay in the wind, as opposed to last year when they pretty much all died from landing on the HPS grow light. I've spent alot of time analysing how to get the most plants in the least amount of space indoors, and I have learned from my mistakes of the past. In all likelyhood I will end up with 2 24 inch pots under 1 light if I keep it up like this. My goal is to get the maximum pepper production under a single grow light, and the particular Bhut strain I am growing doesn't grow alot of peppers per plant, but does grow good peppers. So we will see what happens in time. The grow bags this year was a huge part of my strategy for space and keeping costs lower.

Thanks for the advice,

Aaron

I just had another idea to keep more plants when the foliage on the top of the plant covers underneath. Side lighting will likely supplement the hidden areas of these plants if I trim shoots in layers. Also some inexpensive led panels in each row might do the trick as well.

7/28/2013 - Started moving more plants from inside outside due to over crowding inside.

Moved all but 8 plants outside due to overcrowding. Raised the grow light about a foot. I am contemplating trimming these all down short so that they grow back short and bushier. Will probably wait until after the current flowers set so I can get some peppers, then when I am about to move the pepper plants from outside inside, trim them all down at once for winter harvesting. Will definitely need 1 to 2 more lights for the quantities I am growing, especially for the small cups I will be transplanting to one gallon bags for winter time.
