fermenting Adding pepper flakes to the ferment?

Hi,

A week ago i started a ferment. I added finely chopped fresh peppers and whey to a saltwater brine. It's really bubbling away actively now. However, i'ts a bit watery in my opinion. I have a store-boght can of crushed dried peppers in my kitchen. Can i just add this to the ferment or should it be fresh peppers?

Edit: yes, there is still enough room in my fermenting vessel...

I have done some research. It is possible to add pepper flakes to the ferment. But most people say they lack the flavor that fresh peppers have.
So I went down to the supermarket, bought some fresh habaneros, mashed them up and added this to the ferment. Now it has the thick consistency I was looking for. Bubbling away nicely.
