pests Aphids

Hey all,

I have been searching for ideas on how to end my aphid problem once and for all so that I may bring my beautiful ladies indoors for the winter and not be fighting them indoors... yuck. I just can't seem to get rid of them... I have tried three rounds of lady bugs, I high pressure spray them just about everyday... I just can't seem to get rid of the buggers.

Help please !!

- Mega

have you tried de powder? diatomaceous earth. you can dust it on the aphids as well as sprinkle it on the soil to get rid of ants harvesting the little bastards. just don't breathe the stuff.

of course, if you are concerned about beneficial insects, this is not a good cure. the de will kill your earthworms, ladybugs, etc.

Time to go chemical on them. Forget the organic stuff. If you want them 100% dead and gone you'll have to take the next step. I used a product mady by Ortho. Good luck.

Yeah I am thinking chemical may be the answer... with just about two weeks until the last frost I think I'll blast them tomorrow.... wait a few days and then give it to them again before bringing them in for the winter around Oct. 1. Hope it works... I sure don't want to have this problem in an enclosed place.

Hey Mega, I listen to a garden show every Sunday from 6-10 am and something caught my ear when the host was talking about overwinteing plants. Here is the link. Mind you, I do not know the company and I am having a hard time locating the product as it is from Canadia.

They boast to kill aphids in the soil as well, and that is what hooked me so far.

Good luck! (Edited to good from God...) My bad.

Cut off all the leaves.

No leaves = no aphids.

Here you go Sean.

Buhach Powder.

We used this in Alaska against mosquito's in our guide tents.

We'd put a tablespoon on 1 sheet of toilet paper, twist it up into a bomb and light it, then toss in a can.

You could literally see the mosquitos fall out of the air when they flew through fumes and smoke.

Harmless to people.

i also sprinkled it around ants.

Killed 'em all.

Here's a good link.

They are based out of Mercer Island, WA so your $$ go to support in state bid'ness.

Always a good thing.

Azamax if your are wanting to keep it "organic". Makes sure to use some as a soil drench to kill any baddies hanging out down there.

Malathion if you are ready for global thermonuclear aphid war. Leaves NO survivors.

I like the cut all the leaves off method too. Of course you are sacrificing production at that point, but it will work.

Neem oil, pepper juice, and dog shampoo will knock em down, I just started using Cedar Oil instead of Neem so far so good.
