If someone makes sauce, it's usually their passion, and they want to try other sauces. I'd say if you make your own and never try another you are limiting your palate and experiences. So no, I don't think it's strange you bought salsa.

Plus makers don't always have the means to make sauce. This time of year, fresh peppers are pretty hard to come by in rural Vermont, so when I run out, I buy more.
