May I please ask how you germinate your pubes?

I tried it in wet paper towels, and more often than not ended up with helmet heads. The seed cover seems very hard.

Would soaking them in water for 24 hours help?

Do you put them directly in the soil?

Pubes are difficult...and I'm confused.

Steve
My seeds remain in to the GermBox until I don't see the first two leaves (cotiledons). Umidity and temperature hold the elmet soft and you almost have no problem to pull it away.

I put them directly in the soil .
Pubescens sprouted well for me every time if the seeds was good.

I really like this glog, and am following it closely. These are a struggle for me. Very slow initial growth, flowers falling off, very late peppers, etc.

Your knowledge is very much appreciated. Thank you!

Thanks . What  Pubescens varieties do you  grow ?

I only have Giant Mexican Rocoto seeds that I got from Pepperlover. This year I got two plants out of 12 seeds I started, the flowers all fell off until the beginning of September, and the frost killed them in late October.
I ended up with 4 ripe peppers which were honestly delicious, so I want to try them again. I wish I would have gotten some other varieties for this year, but I didn't. That's one of the reasons I'm following this glog...

Very impressive undertaking, list of subjects and focus toward a specific species.
I like it.

I might add, what makes it even more impressive is your location and ability to have procured such a collection of seed.

Your plants look great, and so many! I really like Rocoto peppers and have grown them off and on for 10 years, but the weather here in Missouri is really too hot in the summer for them.  I get most of the pods in fall just before frost, so I end up with a lot of unripe pods.
I think the best one I grew was the giant Mexican one it seems to take the heat a little better than others.
I wish you the best of luck with them and have a Great 2016 season.
