diatomaceous earth

Hi guys, as a preventative measure, I was thinking about dusting the plants leaves (tops and undersides) with this stuff as well as adding a bit to the tops of the soils. I'm thinking it will help reduce pests such as aphids. Do you think it might work? Plants will be outside. I'd guess that its best to reapply every week or so due to rain, wind..etc.

I add icing sugar to the DE(or buy the pre-sweetened type) and put it on top of the soil. It seems to works well but only when the soil is dry

Hmmm. Not sure I'd use it as a "preventative measure" all season if there is no existing aphid problem? It will wipe out some beneficial bugs, too.

On the other hand, if and when the stink bugs arrive back in my garden later this Spring, they will get a paint brush full of DE death....
