DWC sludge

looks like advance stages of pythium

how often do you change nutes?

what type and strength of peroxide did you use?

what temp is your bucket, and ph?

and what medium is that?

How big is the air pump and how many air stones? 18 gallon is fairly big and will need a bunch of air .

Assuming this is inside, correct?

If I recall, this bucket of his is a week old. Its his first setup. Those rocks hes using are BBQ lava rocks, not designed for hydro but as a additive for gas BBQ's. Could be the cause of the problems. He was at one stage using clear buckets but I suggested he change to black buckets which he has.

the key to root health in DWC is water temps, amount of air, and PH. i had that crap before and i found it came from the water temps were too high, once i lowered the water temps it went away

Water temp 71.9 degrees max, not sure about min at night.

PH 6 ish, somewhere between 5.5-6.5 GH Kit
Tested with this kit, so hard to  fine tune as it only shows -,5.5, 6.0, 6.5,+

Thanks for the quick help

According to my highly scientific calculations :drunk:  1 squirt is about 1-2 tablespoons and I need about 36TBS for 15 gallons. Prob had some where in the neighborhood of 10, added some more this afternoon (probably 10) and its looking better already. Ill check again in the AM and add if necessary.

h2o2 sold for hydro is 29% it requires 3 milliliter per 4 liters as a preventative every 4-5 days

everything else sounds good except for the lava rock, i would have soaked it in h2o2 before using it at least, everything else sounds sufficient, nothing else jumping out as a cause

i would take them out and hose them down outside, remove as much as you can manually, wash everything in as much peroxide as you can afford, bucket, stones, lid, and start over

Where do I find that? Can I just triple my amount for now lol?

I did clean and soak in H202, but it was only 3%

Yea, Ill do that on my water change next week.

Its only on the old roots, and only that part thats in the water, so Im not too worried...plus I have a weak work schedule and plenty of time next week for projects

i got nutrilife H2O2 Hydrogen Peroxide at a local wormsway but is sold online

i did not experience the pythium , my dwc ghost is on its second year, i put it outside in may, and added it as a preventative due to high water tempts outdoors, its back inside and doing fine

This could also be slime mold that comes with old municipal water piping. Hydrogen peroxide will control this, too.
