fertilizer fertilizer question for you guys

Hey guys I received some fert from my buddy as a birthday present and I just had a couple questions about it. Hey got me....

Bonticare pure blend pro grow
Bonticare sweet raw
Vermi T solution

My peppers are in containers and I am using fox farm ocean forest. They have been in the pots for about a moth now. I don't want to over fert my peppers. My question is what stage should I use these and how often. Will they be ok for my hot peppers? I have plenty of other vegetables I wanted to use it on if they are not right for the peppers.

Here are some pics of the stuff

Thank you guys for the help! I tried searching through the forum but couldn't find any info on these fertilizer

I'm not saying I know what I'm doing, or doing it the best it can be done, but in years past when I grew peppers in containers filled with Fox Farm Ocean Forest I didn't fertilze them at all and had good results (I think). If I was going to fertilize them I would wait until they start setting fruit and even then I would exercise caution.

I used liquid fert ( Dynagrow) after 30 days of transplanting into Fox Farms. I went 1/8 strength for a week then changed it up to 1/4 after that. The Fox Farms is supposed to feed for 30 days. I had great results by the way.

I fertilize with Miracle Gro on a monthly basis and watch for mineral deficiencies. My opinion is that peppers do better with less fertilizer than more. They'll let you know if they aren't getting enough.

Dorkasaurus-so you went your whole season without using anything but fox farms? how big was your yield?

megahot-- so you went 1/8 strength for the first week and then when you went to 1/4 strength after that how often did you give them fert? weekly? have you heard of people using botanicare? is it any good?

heres the pics, they are still pretty small, im in northern california which is a zone 9a.

Bob_B----what should i look for when looking for mineral deficiencies?

thanks for the help guys, im just wanting to have a killer crop this year.

My yield wasn't huge. It was my first year growing peppers and I grew them in 3 gallon nursery containers and shitty plastic pots from Big Lots that were probably 2 gallons at most. I only grew about 10 plants of mixed types but the smaller peppers (mostly ornamental) seemed to do fine. I didn't have any chinenses back then, just annuums. Knowing me some of them were probably also grown in some crappy potting soil that was 1/4 the price of Fox Farms (and for good reason imho).

In more recent years I've grown Caribbean Red Habaneros, Peter Peppers, Thai Hot, and Bhut Jolokias in 5 gallon containers with Ocean Forest. I did fertilize those plants lightly. I don't remember what I used other than some organic stuff that I think was also from Fox Farms... it was a dry granular mix of stuff. The biggest bhut was probably 3' tall.

I now grow in the dirt amended with aged horse manure, leaves, old hay, and whatever compost I can scrounge up and they get bigger/produce more... go figure.

Here's some pics of unfertilized crap grown in Ocean Forest: (Remember, I didn't know what I was doing and some are yellowish probably due to over watering, and/or possible nutrient deficiencies but over watering was probably the biggest problem. Also, I started all of these from seed outdoors in June because I didn't plan ahead back then so they were way behind)

And here's stuff I threw in the ground without any amendments. Way overcrowded and unfertilized. I got lucky.

And here's the new home:

Hoping to get real lucky this year :P

Interesting plot Dsaurus, your ground plants seem to like that dirt. The only thing i would load up on is composted cow manure, that's the unsmelly stuff in the bag). I'd also consider some Azomite, good for re-mineralizing deficient soils (ebay, dirt cheap, won't burn plants).

I'm guessing that shade on 2 or 3 sides helps with the hot summer N.M. sun.

i have a hunch your "luck" is going to be very good this year :)

New garden was worked in the fall with dried leaves, old hay, compost, and aged horse manure. Wife is using a little fertilizer and bone meal on her tomatoes and peppers but I'm going to see how the dirt treats me before deciding. For better or worse we're surrounded by 60 foot trees so the garden will only get a couple of hours of direct sun. Most of the day will be filtered but last years garden was in a similar situation and grew good enough for me.

Speaking of sun, I suppose I should have mentioned that the container plants were not grown in a full sun situation either. It's just not possible where I'm at because the entire property is lined with trees and unfortunately what I consider the ideal garden spot is reserved for horses.

Jmishork -I'm using your Pure Blend Grow. I'm not familiar with your other stuff.

Thsi is what I am using now: -My Trinidad Moruga Scorpion is doing great with these nutrients.

1 - Cal-Mag - 2-0-0
2 - Monterey Fish and Poop - 9-6-2
3 - Pure Blend Pro Grow - 3-2-4
4 - Botanicare Liquid Karma Plant Stimulant - 0.1-0.1-0.5
5 - Kelp Green Liquid Organic Ferilizer -1.27 0.253 0.075

With the size of your plants, I recommend using 1/4 strength of whatever you have.

Thanks for the quick reply guys. I really appreciate it. Lets see how this turns out. Ill post updated pics next week to see if it helped
