Hey, I'm still waiting for my superhot peppers to ripen!
A lady read about how I enjoy gardening and preserving juice and called yesterday. She is too old (82 or so she said) to do any canning and she wondered if I would be interested in a tomato strainer. I was more than willing to take it off her hands and she brought it down today.
It is the cat's meow, let me tell you. Only juice and puree make it through the sieve, while the skin and seeds come out the end. Much better than the type that mashes the tomatoes and you have to go clockwise for two turns and counter-clockwise for a turn.
I told her it would probably be a few days before I could give it a test run - I was wrong. I knew I had one tom that was ripe, but it is only about six, maybe eight ounces. But one thing led to another and I ended up with maybe four-five pounds of red ripe fruits.
Washed and boiled them (found out I don't need to) and put them in the gizmo. How fast and easy! I only got a quart of juice but this is 100 times easier than using the other grinder or a food processor and then straining out the seeds and skin.
Last year, if I could save 20 quarts a night, it was fantastic. This year that will take maybe an hour.
Mike
