First timer pepper grow! Planted Feb. 17th, 2013- Pods Multiplying!

I just started my first jalapeno plant. put in the seeds yesterday. using general purpose vegetable miracle grow and seed starting store-bought potting soil in a 4" wide plastic pot with bottom-feed tray. any advice? remember i am new at all this, just starting to look into hydroponics, and plan on starting a hydro system. any fertilizer/ph/watering schedule/ temp/ nutrient/food advice would be greatly appreciated. im very excited to see how my first yeild turns out. i am thinking i might start my next few seeds on a wet tissue to let the seeds burst, and then plant the successful sprouters, and i will be keeping the seeds/plants growing in the same room as my reptiles, which is kept at approx 70-85*F ambient temperature, then moving them into the window sill or outdoors (not sure yet) onto my front balcony. again, any advice would be greatly appreciated.p

This mornings update!  Flowers blooming EVERYWHERE on my JAL, and the 7 pot is starting to get some serious growth coming in!  Also, started a Lemon Drop seed in the hydro on Friday or Saturday cant remember which...  the 3 Tomato sprouts are already picking up speed fast!  1 of them is on its 3rd or 4th set of true leaves already!!!  Pics below!

Changed the water in my hydro last night, the water was starting to grow brown algae .  Im gonna have to seal out the light better soon.  Anyways, took about an hour to flush and reset, as I being a genius did not make room to drain or fill the water  .  Soaked the carpet with a gallon ish of water when I spilled one of the buckets >.>  Anyways..... First pods started!  Walked in this morning to find two or three pods already going!!!  I apologize for the large pictures, got a new camera and ive been enjoying the quality :D  Pics speak better than words, so heres the latest!

Also put up a Pothos at my work for decoration/air/zen benefits, and started some wild flower seeds on paper for decoration!  pics soon!

POD PORN ALERT!!! Jal has finally started pushin out peppers!  Also, the 7 pot is putting on a lot of buds!  Also, the Cherry Tomatoes are taking off much faster than I thought they would lol, cant wait for them to get big, I will have to raise my light before too much longer :D  Repotted my Pathos plant today, I should have taken pictures of how solidly root bound it was, looked like sphaghetti that formed to the shape of the bowl!  Potted it up to a #2 Pot, hopefully it will have a better time now.  Lesson re-enforced, Walmart DOES NOT know how to take care of their plants lol. Anyways, here are the pictures!

Air conditioning went out yesterday... freon leak froze up the condenser coils solid, and had to put 1.5lb in to get it balanced again!  The heat totally fried some of my 7 pot leaves, but most of them are still good.  I will be trimming the burnt parts off the leaves tonight after work, and I moved the light away a few inches to help with the light bleaching.  Any thoughts?  Pics Below!

Really excited about the performance of these tomatoes!  started lettuce yesterday or the day before, will post pics when it pops!

Monday Update!  Still improving the hydroponic system, I am going to lay out a 'base' for the plant pots to sit on, and I raised the top level to the ceiling.  Believe me it was a pain to build in the room, but fortunately I used stuff I can easily take apart and re-assemble.  \
Large tomato plant still growing like crazy!  cant wait to see what this one does!

Other two tomatoes still doing rather fine, just trailing behind the big one

7 pot is still showing stress from the AC failure burns,  moved the light a little higher to try to encourage them to get taller/thicker.  Also trying not to 'sun bleach' the leaves, been noticing they seem to stay rather yellow

Jal pods still swelling up nicely,  almost ready to pot this one up again before too much longer...  Im sure the roots are starting to get a nice spread.  Cant wait for that blush/corking!

I staged the location of the pots, they are normally more under the light with the other ones, but here is the improvements I made to the setup...  Gonna have to get mini cages for the tomatoes soon...

Picture update!  Started some lettuce for myself and a friend or 2, as well as some flowers!  moved one sprout early, sort of testing how well it takes the transplant at this stage.  Pictures of everything below!

Lettuce and cherry tomatoes still doing great as ever, had my first lettuce harvest, made a nice spicy chicken sandwich, still kinda thin leaves, but very Juicy!

got any recommendations for setting 7 pot pods?  got tons of flowers, but few sets.  I read it could be too much nutes, too hot, etc.  I am also gonna let one of the tomato plants dry out, Justin was right, i want more space for the one I got, and I am getting rid of the other one...thinking of replacing it with a cumari...

Haven't posted in a while, Wanted to post some recent picture updates!  Thank you sooo much to everyone who donated seeds to me, I really do appreciate it, and believe me I will continue to grow for many years with your plants!  The 7 pots especially, I absolutely LOVE the beautiful Orange color and the smoky, almost fruity heat from the 7 pot I grew!  I hate to say it, but I can barely remember who all sent me seeds, so here is a shout out to all of you, and please let me know if you recognize any of the pods as one of your plants so I can send you a proper thank you card!  Just started some Adenium Obesum's, cant wait for them to get some size over the next few years, and am reallllllly looking forward to the next several harvests off these plants!  I got rid of the cherry tomatoes, as well as the lettuce, I found I love the flavor of both, but the size requirements are simply too much for my current housing situation...  Cant wait to get a proper yard!  Pictures below!

After harvesting, getting ready to harvest seeds and dehydrate for some high heat chilli powder!

First cut, some beautiful colors inside!
YFxM9X7.jpg

Seeds harvested, I put them in a wrapped up paper towel to soak out the moisture under the heat of the grow light for a few days, then when they were dry enough to crack when folded, put them in a fresh paper towel and stored in a small ziplock for future use.  Sound about right, or does anyone have a better method?  Any advice would greatly help!
UOaZOaw.jpg

Into the dehydrator for preservation/powdering! Will upload powder pictures when I have enough to speak of!

Also, does anyone else have any trouble getting flowers to set fruit in a hydro system?  I need to get a better rez, the one I am currently using is letting in too much light, causing algae growth, not to mention the dang air pump just died, made the rookie mistake of putting it lower than the water level and it got wet... I think the combination of these might be severely hindering the system's potential, but I will fix it as I can afford... thoughts anyone?  fyi, I have been using maxibloom, ppm around 700-800, and a 6.2 PH, watered twice a day for 15 minutes apeice in a 30/70 mix of perlite/coco coir, 16/8 light/dark cycles.
