Found that the burner works better on med to med hi, on full blast the heat is pushed off to the side and doesn't heat the pot efficiently.

That air-lock might be on the floor, with foam erupting, depending on how big of a batch he made ...

If you pitched US-05, you shouldn't have to worry about the fermentation getting too vicious. I've brewed some relatively high gravity beers with that yeast, with minimal foam/krausen.
Used way too much water. I was using a BIAB calculator and left the default value set to 1.25 gallon for boil loss, which was not the case, it was more like .5 gallons , so I ended up dumping about 1 gallon of wort not to have more the 5 gallons in the fermenter.
