Japanese Maples

I was wondering who else enjoys growing these amazing trees. What varieties are you growing, and what is your favorite type. Does anyone have pics, right now they are changing colors and are absolutely beautiful. I will post a pic of mine tomorrow.
 
I got one a couple years ago - a red lace-leaf type. It was kind of amusing this year, in that I planted russian sage in front of it, and the russian sage grew like weeds and almost completely hid it this year. VERY slow growers, those maples!
 
The lace leaf types are very interesting. A mutant dwarf among giants. My sister has one that started a new shoot about a foot off the ground that grew true to the breed, large green leaves on a lace red tree.
 
I love them, in my new place iom building im going to be doing a japanese/chinese garden in the back.

The only problem is finding a maple that will be able to meet perths climate....very dry very hot and very sandy....


All that grow here naturally is natives and grasses...
 
my neighbours have a japanese maple just outside my door, the thing is only 3 feet tall, it has been there for 15 years and wasn't really growing at all. we have anti-jap-maple growing conditions. but i have been feeding the tree my seaweed fertilizer for the past 2 years in the spring and summer, it has made some remarkable growth spurts. we are in the middle of a snow storm today and tomorrow, perhaps if there is a break in the white stuff i can take a pic...... if i remember that i made this post.
 
Some of the dwarf types just stay small. My in-laws have a neighbor who has one over 20 years old and not more than 4 feet.
