KAOS Glog - 2017

Welcome to the KAOS Glog 2017

I wasn’t going to do one this year, but thought what the hell. Some of my intrepid journey may be of interest to someone or at the very least a bit of entertainment for the Northern Hemisphere Chilliheads.

Since I’m playing a bit of catchup (started in April really) here is a quick summary of proceeding through to today.
NZ Season 2016 was dismal to say the least with a very short cold summer and it didn’t help starting late either.

Apologies for the image heavy first post

Some of 2016’s last pods

I decided 2017 was going to be a different and this would be a challenge against the winter elements.

Bring on the indoor grow brigade – 900mm x 400mm grow cabinet with grow LED

Now unfortunately being the gadget addict that I am I had to start experimenting with lights. The next photo is a humble cayenne that became the lab rat (aka Tarbal) over the next couple of months.

Remember Tarbal for later …

Once I’d proven (to myself anyway) that the LED thing actually worked I decided to soldier on with some actual proper peppers

A selection of Superhots – Ghost/Choc Bhut/Reaper…etc

Back to Tarbal now and roll on some 53 days from previous photo

My grow process is nothing new.
KNO3 for 24hrs
Coffee filter in Jiffy Bag until sprouting – Heatpad and mini greenhouse
Into Rockwool with a dab of soil - Heatpad and mini greenhouse
Wait until liftoff and into pots when first set of leaves are established

This was the start of the true growing period – Upgraded to 1.2m x 1.2m tent

Sideline to the grow this year is the Amarillo Growdown and here are some progress shots

I'd say that's some great progress right there! Plants look to be accelerating, and that Reaper just keeps looking better and better! No issues with drainage of the mix?

Keep them plants rolling along! :onfire:

Thanks TBG.

Reaper mix drainage is actually getting better every time I water. Might be that the 'fines' have been captured by the root system.
Next problem I can see is that the pot is not going to be big enough (10 ltr) so might just bump it up to a grow bag at some stage.
I'm still around 5 days between waterings so will decide on repotting when she's down to every other day for hydration.

Keep on rolling

The weather seems to be improving and progress is slow but steady.

Reaper Mix Progress - I've trimmed some bottom leaves off and had to choose a new photo location (getting too big now)

Thanks for stopping in and as time passes I'm sure photo's will become more interesting and colourful.

The plants are looking good and healthy. Looking forward for the rest of the season and all the colors.

That green pod with the pimple looks like real pepper porn LOL. Would be interesting to see a ripe one hahaha.

Thanks for the update.

Awesome start, Kaos! Everything looks like it's ready to roll into summer
firing on all cylinders.  The Aji Amarillos seem to take forever to ripen; I always
have a couple of bags full of green pods at the end of the season.

Good luck going forward.  You have some great looking plants underway...

Thanks Qandeel / Paul

Let's just hope we can keep the bugs at bay this season. I've seen a couple of aphids lurking around already.

General good growth all round and warmer weather.

Can't wait until we have some colour in the photos, but it's getting there slowly.

Biggest disappointment this year was non-true seeds, but I will look after them anyway...every pod a victory

Thanks for stopping by and next time we should have some ripening pod pics

Jip, Not true seeds are a frustration , but part of the adventure, enjoy.
Check my plant named " This is not the road to Amarillo" on my glog , still an excellent plant.
I am sharing your pain on slow ripening pods . It is even more frustrating on the light coloured pods , like peach , white or cream.

Hey, looking good.

That's a shame about the seeds.

But at least they are chillies! :D

How's things coming along now?

That's my thinking TBG. Better than being bell peppers.

Coming along nicely and quite a few pods and ripening action. I'll be updating over the weekend.

Weather has improved and it actually feels like summer is here eventually.

Growth has been good all around and I even managed to get into the garden to do some weeding after the first photo below.

Pods are ripening and flowers making their appearance, but very few bees this year so we will see how things go.

Thought I would share what Santa bought me for Christmas :woohoo:

Mostly Aluminium / Galv steel / Polycarbonate - 1200 x 1200. A steal at less than $100NZD. Took 6hrs to build though.

Sweet little greenhouse, Jarrod; looks quite solid. Should
hold 10 big plants plants or so, and a ton of small stuff.
I really like the double trays with drains.  Nice find...
Was the base included?

Pods look tasty!
