KEEP THE GOVERNMENT OUT OF YOUR GARDEN

I HIGHLY encourage everyone to make a submission to the Australian government regarding the proposed new changes to drug laws. It proposed to make thousands of plants illegal that contain traces of illegal drugs or chemicals used in drug manufacture (stupid things such as 25 grams of calcium could lead to jail time if this goes through). Outside of drugs having many positive benefits for many people, the simple act of gardening will be highly limited and further increase the control governments have over people.

Check out this site, it explains what plants are at risk and more details on the stupidity of such laws.

Hmmmmm, no reply's here.
And we wonder why our govt constantly finds new ways to roll on us. Let's face it. This law will probably go through because no one will care.
Respect to all my fellow Australians at the hot pepper that do work hard and care were their tax money is going (not waisted on crap like this). let's have our say and show we won't stand for this foolishness.

that just sucks man, out here. our government is actually doing the opposite. currently there's been a politician that has come up with a bill, hopefully it gets passed. to lower our real property taxes by growing our own vegetables. which is quite awesome. i sure hope it gets passed. taxes here are killer.

hopefully everything will work out.

Mate , havent the coppers got enough to do without worrying about crap like this. You are right though the general public is so apothetic that these things just slide on through into law.

Which Hot Peppers are gonna be illegal in Australia?

Or is this just a politically motivated thread that is posted in the wrong forum?

Jim

Do even milk weeds - large ones at that - have 25 grams of calcium?

Not to disparage the OP, but lots of times it seems people get their pants in knots over much ado about nothing. Over here, we have (had) SB 510 that brought out all kinds of protesters and bloggers. But when all is said and done, unless one is raising acres of plants and selling hundreds of thousands dollars in produce, it doesn't affect you.

I think Einstein got it wrong, it's really "for every action, there is another, disproportional reaction" at least when it comes to some laws.

My 2ยข worth.

Really? I'd like to see how a home gardener is to buy seeds/plants of a federally prohibited plant.

Considering the lazy law writing style of this proposed legislation, imagine if it managed to apply to the whole solanaceae family... I wouldn't be surprised if a number of peppers are prohibited due to trace alkaloid content.

The comment about this being in the wrong forum - there's a button for that. If this is in the wrong forum, then it can be moved. My intent is hardly politically motivated, I cannot fathom the insanity of prohibiting nature.

I'm quite surprised at the lack of interest in general botany on this thread, are some pepper growers just wanting to be the cool kid with a stupidly hot pepper?

I wouldnt put it past them trying to ban superhots because they might be used as a weapon or maybe as a drug because of the endorphin release.

It wont worry me if they ban ANYTHING. In fact it will make me want to grow it even more just to spite the bastards. :high: is illegal but can still get seeds for that, opium is illegal too but heaps of people still grow that too mostly for the pretty flowers. Hell make superhots illegal and i could actually find a ready market for them lol. Dont worry, i wont sell them to YOUR kids, they would have a ready supply from dads/mums stash.

I wouldn't worry about it to much, in fact making it illegal could be good for the hot pepper business. Think of all the high school kids getting into pepper growing to stick it to the man. I might move to Australia just to grow some "Freedom Bhuts". I've know people with illegal plants, guns and medicines which isn't hard in a state were every other thing is illegal. Long story short if your government tells you not to do something, it ironically becomes easier and more popular to do.

oh just pay no attention to the man behind the curtain

"we are the government and we are here to help you"

here we (see the apathy "WHAT, ME WORRY?")have the effects of gubbermint controlled education and media

you better fuss about things like this
loud and hard or your kids will suffer
do not give them a millimeter

every small amount of earnings the government spends
takes a larger amount from those of us
who would spend it much wiser
the government is too big in more places than just kalifornia
edited to add comment about the damn gubbermint being too large

The worlds going to go to shit in a handbasket anyway, i' ll be damned if i give the governing bodies any of my time excluding shooting the bastards.

Some of those here quibbling about it not being pepper related or that the plants are some "who cares" species are missing the point. If the govt can waste tax payers funded studies and come up with ridiculous laws like this then.

1. There bored and are looking for shitty little project to make them busy.
2. They need to spend to prove their budget
3. These idiots who are educated beyond their intelligence need to be made redundant.
4. It starts here people with us allowing these children to play their games until it escalates to banning the things we love.

If we need an example, learn from these past issues:-

Australian Broadcasting Tribunal - went on a banning spree banning children's TV shows for things like and quote "not clearly defined and might confuse the young"

Steven Conroy's Internet filter - claims its to stop porn (thats what he sells to the public) and yet it was found that once the ball started on this insane project - that one by one the censor ship started growing it topics as equally ridiculous as the Australian Broadcasting Tribunals list of shitty demands and ridiculous standards. example form wikileaks:- filter to block websites of fringe religions, Christian sites, and even the websites of a tour operator and a Queensland dentist. Colin Jacobs, spokesman for lobby group Electronic Frontiers Australia, said that there was no mechanism for a site operator to know they got on to the list or to request to be removed from it. Australia's Communications Minister, Stephen Conroy later blamed the addition of the dentist's website to the blacklist on the "Russian mob".[8]

So Friends of THP, start keeping your eye on these rat bags, see the warning signs, and act before they get their little bit of power get out of control.

BTW heres something to laugh at - listen to this blithering idiot. And we allow this guy to keep is tax funded waste of a job.
